Biomolecular Science Degree/Biosciences Degree

    Hi all,

I'm considering entering the Level 7 Biosciences Degree and then advancing to the Biomolecular Science degree. I'm coming from a high-end Level 8 degree program which is heavily involved in the biological sciences so I'm well equipped I believe and will be getting advanced entry into 3rd year of the Biosciences degree.

I was wondering what the course(s) are like and what to expect....difficulty, hours, interesting, the actual college??? Any help will be appreciated. I'll be moving from a Uni to a IT so wondering what the changes will be like as well, if any.

Thanks in advance for any replies. I've searched on the forums for these courses but didn't find any significant response!!

    Appreciated! ;)

I don't know the courses in question, but here is a link to the coursewise entry for the courses. Here and Here
That will give you the info you want, such as Class hours and content etc. It's better than nothing.

Also, I wouldn't worry about any changes with regards to University v's IT. DIT is a University in all but name, so there shouldn't be any changes.

Do you want/need any specific info about DIT in General? I'll do my best to help if I can.

Thanks for that information, I actually never found it on the website, really helpful for module details :-)

As for specific details for DIT; what would you consider the generally agreed pro's and con's of the place...I'd like to know what I'm getting into :P

Pro's: to name a few, generally small class sizes, approachable lecturers, good links to industry (I know this applies to the Business Campus, not too sure about the Sciences)

Con's: lack of joined up campus is a big one, and following on from that no accommodation on site(s), facilities can be a little bit lacking - for example, in every computer lab there will usually be a computer or two that doesn't work etc.

Just out of curiosity; is the examinations like at the end of the year? Or are they split; half at Christmas and half in May like UCD?

And would it be possible to see the exam papers from Biosciences third-year subjects, I tried finding and viewing them and it didn't seem possible unless I was actually a student. Would anyone be able to show me them please?

Would appreciate it to see if I've already covered stuff from my previous two years in the other discipline.

    Thanks!!

I'm on the mobile at the moment, but when I go home ill stick em up for you, if you can wait that long! :)

    Edit:
Exams are split between Christmas and summer for the vast majority of courses, but I obviously don't know about yours. It would say on course wise though.

Exam papers are available online for 2010, 2009 and 2006:

    DT226 - http://student.dit.ie/exampapers/KT/2010_College_of_Science/DT226/

    DT259 - http://student.dit.ie/exampapers/KT/2010_College_of_Science/DT259/

Just replace the 2010 in the link with whatever year you want to look at.
