Do Ryan Air require a passport number when booking a flight? My passport is out of date and I want to book a cheap flight. Will have my new passport before I travel.

IIRC you only need one when you're checking in, but it may depend where you're flying to.

You only need the passport number when checking in, no matter where you are flying.

if you are travelling to another country, you will not be permitted entry without a valid passport. that is why ryanair and other carriers require you to possess a passport. by the way, usually it must also have more that 6 months before its expiry date. best idea would be to get a new passport, its not worth the risk.

You NEED a passport. You could book the flight without but at the time of the check in you will need the details of a VALID passport. You should apply for a passport as soon as possible. Expecially with Ryanair you will lose your booking and you will be not refunded in the case you wont have the passport on time. You will be not permitted to fly without a valid passport because they will send you back with a fine.

Within the EU, this is absolute nonsense. A passport is valid for travel until the very last day of its validity.

You don't need your passport number when booking. Only when checking in online and the actual passport when you're at the gate

No you don't need it for booking but you still have to show it at the gate and it might be that you need your number for online check in but it's not for sure.

No you don't need your passport for booking the flight, however you will need it for online check-in.

    www.Ryanair.com

    TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION
"It is each passenger's personal responsibility to ensure that he or she has valid travel documentation which meets the requirements of Ryanair, immigration and other authorities at every destination....

Details of all passengers’ travel documents (including those of children and infants) must be entered during the online check-in process. All passengers must present their valid travel document along with their online boarding pass at airport security and at the boarding gate for all flights"

For entry to Spain on an Irish passport, your passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your holiday.

From Department of Foreign Affairs website
    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need a passport to enter Spain. There is no minimum passport validity requirement but your passport must be valid for the planned period of your stay.

OP, you have up until 4 hours before your flight to check-in using your passport details - hopefully you will receive your new passport before then! You don't need it when booking the flight.
