Cycling around DCU

I'll be living near DCU for the next three months, and was thinking of getting a bicycle to get around the nearby area. I don't think I'm fit enough to go cycling into the city centre. Is it worth getting a cheap decent bike to go around and get my groceries, and for the leisurely bike ride in the early mornings and evenings when I'm bored but don't want to go out drinking or whatever? You, DCU cyclist, know better than I do ... let me know what you think!

I would say no, everything is within walking distance and bikes get nicked all the time. Bus is cheap too.

How close is near? If its longer than a ten min walk a bike could be good for an extra few mins in bed.

EDIT: Read it again there, you are not a student no? Well then a bike could be good. I live right beside the college, the Omni shopping centre is a ten min walk at most so a bike would be a waste for me, bustops are nearby too.

hi... Im a staff member living in Clontarf. Sometimes I cycle to work...takes about 20 mins. I think a bike is a good idea as apart from getting groceries etc the bike would be very handy for visiting areas like clontarf and howth... some really nice walks down by the sea and nice cafes and restaurants too etc.
Although bike theft is probably a problem most places, my bike has never been stolen when locked up on campus! hopefully im not tempting faith saying that!
