Carvan Insurance problems!

Yes I know, not another carvan, tax/insurance thread! (I have searched but not found the answers, if there are any!).

I bought a Toyota Corolla car van (no back seats).

I will be using it sometimes to help my father on the farm, but mainly for personal use, so I WILL be taxing it privately.

I was ringing around the insurance companies and many are refusing to quote me for insurance. The reason they are giving is that goods vehicles must be taxed commercially.

So I am not allowed to tax my carvan commercially as I am sometimes using the van for my own use.

Yet I am not allowed to Insure the vehicle if its not taxed commercially.

Has anyone else had these kinds of problems getting insurance in a carvan? any information would be greatly appreciated.

FBD will only cover car vans as private, never as commercial so ring them and they will quote.Plus if yer Da has a farm insured with them then they will bend over backwards for you.;)

Other companies are more stringent as it is technically a light commercial vehicle and would be rated like a Caddy for example.

Thanks for the advice, I got a quote off them there, they seem very helpfull. The quote was quite dear but better to have it insured properly than saying its used for work use only.
