    Hi all,

Just to be aware that if you use a phone case with a magnetic latch, it can cause long term issues with the phones magnetometer.

I bought a flip case for my HTC Desire about 2 months ago. Shortly afterwards, I found that apps which used the magnetometer did not work correctly. The default Compas app would show "Abnormal magnetic field detected" every time it was opened.
Doing the '3D figure of 8' recalibration only 'fixes' it for a few minutes...even if the phone is removed from the flip case. So it seems that the magnet has had a permanent effect on the magnetometer.

Some apparant fixes documented across various websites include:
    1. Reinstalling affected apps
    2. Resetting the phone to factory defaults
    3. Turning off the phone and shaking hard it for 30 seconds.
    4. Keeping the phone away from strong magnetic fields for a 1-2 weeks.
(I also found a reference to running a small current through a wire coiled around the phone..I'm no electronics expert, but I figured that would create a magnetic field, not remove one.)

    I haven't found a solution yet...I'm hoping #4 works!
