There are some older posts about metal-detecting here but make sure to look at the charter as well. As far as I know there certain topics on this are not permitted in the Archaeology forum:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=50590522
    ...METAL DETECTING
    - Please refrain from posting anything with reference to obtaining a metal detector, use of a metal dector or ownership of such a product. Metal Detecting for Archaeological finds or close to a site of historical/archaeological importance is illegal under the National Monuments Ammendment Act(1987)

    Hi John,

First, let me say that I am not a moderator here on the archaeology forum. I just wanted to point you to some of the older threads that may be of interest to you. As the forum charter regarding metal detection had been brought up in some of the old threads I also linked to that.

    Have a nice day.

    hi preusse.
i wasnt having a go at you.dont think that.
i know the law here over metal detecting is strange ,if it was more like the uk then there would be a lot more historical finds in the museums .
and if i ever did find anything on the beach i would hand it in .
    john .

    Hi John,

I understand. Hopefully you find someone interested in joining you on your trips. Have you tried the Cork forum? There may be people who are interested but may not be aware of your thread here.
