    hi guys

i have a crewcab which i use for work as im a builder, well my tax was up for renewel and as it was registered in my company and have the vat number etc thought would be straightforward, how wrong was i....

filled up my form for use as a work van only got it stamped by gardai proceeded to tax office, was told i had to get letter from revenue to say i was registered etc,got that...also had to get letter from insurance company to say i could carry passengers and employees, went to my broker they scratched there heads first one for them, they gave me copy of my policy which states its commercial and im a builder and can carry any 1 in regards to my line of work,

proceeded to tax office still not good enough,im fuming at this stage this is my second time coming to there office,so i have to go back to my broker who rings insurance company who thinks we are stupid for requesting whats written in front of us in the policy, now insurance company wont give letter as they say its in the policy,i have to go back tommrow with my policy with the words can carry passengers relating to my work.....has anyone else came across this before??i know when i go back they wont accept it since its not the letter the crave

I got my jeep taxed fairly handy. The motor tax office can be a pain in the arse if you don't have the paperwork in order. It's probably the fact that you have potentially 4 passengers in a crew cab and commercial jeeps usually have 1 passenger by law. Wish I could have seats in the back like a crew cab instead of driving in convoy to jobs.

Thanks for the reply morg,ya well as far as I knew I had my paperwork in order,I had never heard of this insurance letter as I know they don't require it in Limerick,I think they just been awkward to get more money, anyways I'll try again tommr and if no joy will padlock myself inside :D I get your point about the seats but crewcabs are classed commercial

Holy god that tax office sounds as bad as the tax office in wicklow. Sure as long as it says on tax book commerical and crew cab and you do a DOE every year You are breaking no laws . The cute Hs are just pushing you towards taxing it privately is all. Stand your ground refuse to leave and ask them to show where on the department of envirnoment paperwork do you need all these things. Best case go to another tax office and tax it.
