The lecturers will confirm in Sept which books you need. However if you want to do some pre-reading, try and dig out last years syllabi, the books usually stay the same from year to year!

I would advise to enjoy your summer, there will be plenty of time for hard work in Sept!

Hey, I'm studying Business & Management so I have done some of the business modules you will be doing. The business modules have large class sizes but the continuous assessments involve a lot of group work which helps you get to know people. I think you will probably doing economics modules too. Some people can find these difficult but generally if you put the work in, they are interesting subjects.

Hope this helps! Good luck with the course!

I have done foundation year and we had 2 economics modules(not easy), so I should be able to get exemption for my first year. What are the business modules like? Did you find them hard?

The business modules are not hard but you do need to put a good bit of work into the continuous assessments & studying for the exams to do well. If you go onto the Business School website & look up your course, it will give you a detailed breakdown of your modules. I enjoyed them any way & most people I knew did too.

Hi, I've just finished first year of Business & Accounting

In first year the modules are:
    Management and Teams
    Organisational Behaviour
    Macroeconomics
    Microeconomics
    Intro to Accounting
    Marketing and Sales
    The Business Landscape
    Quantitative Analysis
    Intermediate Microeconomics
    Financial Accounting
    Principles of Finance

You also need to do ECDL as well!

The books used could change next year, but the ones we used were
Business Accounting 1 and Business Accounting 2 - both Frank Wood
Economics: European Edition - Krugman, Wells & Graddy
    Microeconomics - Pindyck & Rubinfeld
Management & Organisational Behaviour - Laurie J Mullins
Marketing An Introduction for Students in Ireland - D Rogan

To be honest I got by without buying most of these books. Lectures and tutorials cover most things and if you ever do need to use the book, you can probably get it in the library.

For me, the economics modules were the hardest. There are a good few small assignments for economics. They're small but hard enough in my opinion!
The business modules are easy to follow, but the continuous assessments are hard work just because they're so long, and working with a group of strangers is really hard to organise!
Accounting was easy enough for me, even though I didn't do accounting in school, because they start from the very very beginning. There's not much continuous assessment for accounting, maybe 1 test or assignment per module.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now! If you want to know anything else, just ask :)
