    I don't know the legislation offhand, but I'd say it might be worth contacting your local garda station as well, especially if you've been attacked. Roaming animals are also a traffic hazard. And be prepared to contact the dog warden regularly and follow up if nothing seems to be happening. Depending what area you're in it can take a while to get things done, at least in my experience.
