What's a slightly faulty 3GS worth?

    Hi guys,
I know this is like "how long is a piece of string", but I have an iPhone 3GS sitting in a drawer and I may as well flog it...

The phone is in very good condition, but has 2 issues:

    1. The headphone socket is not working. The headphone jack will only go in about 75% of the way. This happened to it literally overnight! Therefore, it cannot be used for listening to music via wired headphones. A guy in a phone shop told me it should be a simple repair, but I never got round to it, and upgraded shortly after anyway.

    2. There is a very minor tiny little crack on the back, next to the dock connection. I believe this is a very common 3GS issue, and in fact, this phone is actually a warranty replacement (May 2010), original phone replaced for the same reason!

Other than that, the phone works perfectly and is in good cosmetic condition apart from that little crack. It has been sitting in a drawer unused since January since I got an IP4, and it's unlocked to all networks.

    Ballpark asking price?

I bought one with the same little crack for €150 but the headphone thing was find on it.

I had the same problem with my old 3GS. Headphones would not go fully in, turned out to be a bit of fluff squashed into bottom of it. Cleared it with a paper clip.

Hi op, i'm sure that all that's wrong with the headphone socket is there's a bit of dirt or fluff stuck in it, as said above. Happened to my iPod recently.

Yeah, maybe, but I did try the paperclip idea at the time and it didn't work! It doesn't look like anything is blocking it either if you squint and look into it...

Strange, by any small chance is the earphone jack a different size than socket as you can get them in different sizes.

Nope, the standard apple earphones were the ones I was using. I'll dig it out and take a look at it again.

You've already been beaten several times over :) I didn't realise these things are so sought after until I posted this thread :pac:

EDIT: I don't want to piss off the mods on here - I didn't start this thread with the intention of advertising, it was a genuine enquiry as to what would be a fair asking price for it.

Ok, other than that I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't fit, let me know how you get on.

    A mint 16gb iPhone 3GS is worth about €200.
Yours needs a back and headphone socket which would cost about €70 from a shop.
So I'd estimate yours to be worth €100-€150max if it comes with box, etc

This site is good for pricing up what a phone is worth. I buy, sell and fix alot of iPhones and envirofone is what I usually base my buying prices on(usually damaged phones)
