Best Music Software

I am thinking about branching into recording demos for bands and was wondering what the best software would be, regardless of the price.

I currently have Ableton 7, and think its great, but find that its whole emphasis on looping and live performance is not the greatest for recording, lets say, a rock song with vocals guitars and drums which no looping or much sound effects. I would like a good software for mixing and recording multi-track, high quality band music. Thanks in advance

I'd say go with Pro Tools 9 if you have a PC. You can now use third party audio interfaces with it, no need to get digidesign hardware anymore.
There's always Cubase too but I think if you're looking to do bands then Pro Tools is the way to go. If you had a Mac I'd probably suggest Logic.
