Hi everyone, there is a new internship scheme, starting the 1st of July if you want to gain some work-experience. There is a new scheme out in July, similar to WPP but you get €50 a week plus the social welfare. Check it out. The government has just recently introduced it. Honestly I think its a scheme that is more likely to work than the WPP.

    Check out the website: http://www.jobbridge.ie/

    Good luck!

I'm working at a WPP job at the moment, enjoying it, gaining some experience and the company is going to keep me on after it when I trained up. I read here about the conversion to the new JobBridge scheme so I'm going to go for that, an extra €200 a month would be very handy!

I had one but company was having problems so they cut the internship short. I would of loved to have one still because of this scheme.

My girlfriend has found a creche that is willing to take her on under this jobdbrige scheme though is having trouble finding how exactly to register and get the the extra fifty euro a week.
Any one have any ideas on what steps are needed? Or where the form for both employee and employer are to be found?

She is going to work any way with out payment as sees it as a good chance to gain meaningful experience in this sector.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.......

All the information about it is on their site, the company needs to apply to be a "host organisation" first as far as I can remember.

There's a huge amount of companies who are completely taking the piss with these schemes, shops, bars, petrol stations etc (all things you pointed out). I think it's something that the people who are judging the eligibility of the companies allowed to be "host organisations" just need to have some cop on and comment sense when evaluating the companies.

I worked on petrol pumps for ~8 years when in school and college, there's nothing you'd learn in 9 months that couldn't be learnt in a few weeks.

i emailed them about the 3 years experience being against the principles of job bridge.

that was around lunchtime, by this afternoon i had received a reply stating "We have contacted the host organisation and have suspended the advert pending further investigation and clarification."

    hopefully it won't reappear.

i would encourage people if you do see things that don't look right to make contact and explain your problem

I can see how useful these internships are and i would love to do one though i am employed just not in the area i studied -

Though looking at it I thought it was gonna be different from WPP, and it looks exactly the same -

While it's still new the goverment or who ever is in charge of this internship should really put some regulation on it now, it wouldnt be hard either, when a host company applies for and internship, surely somebody could just say no! - Jobs like the topaz one is really discrediting the program, jobs like sales assistant shouldnt be on it either -

All in all i still think its a good idea - if you dont like the job than dont apply -

What if all the jobs become unpaid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 768 ✭✭✭Uncle_moe

What if all the jobs become unpaid?

this is exactly what is going to happen. when they announced ages ago that they woudl offer an extra 50 per week for internships it was only a matter of time before we saw a race to the bottom. No one is going to get paid anymore and we are likely to see lay offs and rehiring of interns. People will write back saying its illegal but who's really going to prevent it and protect the worker?

I wish people weren't so naive, stop working for nothing because if you do it now you will be doing it the rest of your life. Its time the unemployed stuck together and just said no to free work. I would like to think all workers should be entitled to an equal wage. Seriously people dont give in to this crap, it might seem like a great short term solutuon to not having a job but I bleieve it will only lengthen your time on the labour exchange.

Hmmm... I respectfully disagree. Why should a person who has left school after their junior certificate be paid the same as somebody who has devoted years of their life to educating and training themselves for a position?

Equal wage maybe but everyone should be entitled to minimum wage afterall that person with just their junior cert could be working just as hard as anyone else.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,794 ✭✭✭Squall Leonhart

I certainly don't deny that somebody who has only their junior cert could be working as hard as someone with much higher academic levels, but should a waitress, barman, shop assistant etc really earn as much as an engineer, lab technician, optometrist etc? The sheer level of responsibility associated with work in better qualified professions dictates a higher pay packet - both as compensation for the level of responsibility and associated stress levels. Similarly, a bar manager should clearly be paid more money than the guy stocking the fridges and collecting the glasses.

So, again, I totally disagree with "all workers should be entitled to an equal wage". This is not a utopian idealist society, people are rewarded differently for different things, and within reason, rightly so.

Hi does anyone know if there is an allowance paid for childminding if you take up one of these internships? Seen one that wouldn't mind doing but couldn't afford to travel to different town and have childminder on extra €50 a week. If not looks like these offers aren't available to alot of people!

Market forces will dicate no. If theres an over supply of bar managers and an undersupply of fridge packers.

Well I have been successfully chosen to work under this scheme for a large software company based in town. I have only graduated this year with a Hdip in IT. I must admit im a little bit frustrated that I'll be working for peanuts but I have checked the companies backround it is does appear to be a great opportunity for experience. Im wondering do I need an employee contract made up to tell me my rights? (As in workin hours a week / holidays earned etc). I cant go into too much detail but maybe someone might be able to shed a bit of light on this. Thanks

I'm in a similar situation (except I'm still on the old WPP scheme, in the process of getting it converted to a JobBridge) working for an engineering company. Graduated last June, looking for work for months. Started this mid-February and should be made permanent from 1st of October.

Holidays are the same as if you were on the dole I think (a week or 2 a year) and you're supposed to inform the social welfare when you take them. Work hours per week are a minimum of 30 (to be eligible for JobBridge) and I don't think the company could really have you doing much more than 39 hours a week.

I've had some travel with mine, been to the States and to Germany for a week each for training on different machines. Very happy with it overall.

It is a bit of a kick in the teeth working for just dole money but I had a few interviews over the 8 months I was looking for work and my lack of experience in engineering jobs was what was letting me down.

Complaining about not being able to work for free:pac:. In fairness if you have 23 years experience you obviously don't need an "internship" and potentially taking it off someone who just wants some work experience and currently has none. How did you know there was a job at the end of the internship?

the whole idea of the internship s is to re skill in another area if you look at the job bridge site there are about 13 internships in dublin area right now which are offering a full time job if you are suitable after your time spent training .what is wrong with me wanting a change from human sadness / tragedy and death every time i went to work for all those years, when you leave the health services you cannot work for any other health services for 6 years .so i have to re direct my approach to work and that is what the ,,,,job bridge is for so you can up skill in another area . tank you for your understanding ..billbee.

oh well thats what I was suspecting,I hate having to turn down a job in this climate even if its only temp but I have an internship lined up in jan which I dont want to miss out on,thanks for the help :)

It's a bull**** thing but it's not worth only a months worth of work to then have to wait for 3 more months to be eligible for the JobBridge, best of luck with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭ourtrail

No you will only have to wait 2-3 weeks after as the 78 days required don't have to be consecutive, you just have to be in receipt of jobseekers or other other qualified benefits for at least 78 days in total out of the last 6 months - states this on the website.

BTW I know this for certain as I was in the same situation as you then took three weeks work - temporary contract and signed on again for 20 days and was deemed eligible for my Job Bridge internship that I am in now.

I am starting a Jobbridge scheme on Monday. I just have a few questions if anyone can help.

I am fairly sure I don't have to go to the post office for payments once I start this. Is this correct.
And if it is will Thursday be the last day I go to the post office or will it take a couple of weeks to sort everything out.

If they have your bank details, then once you have started your placement, you shouldn't need to go and collect your payment, as it should go straight into the bank.

If they don't have your details, then you will probably have to collect your payment until it is set up (could take 2 weeks).

My advice would be check with the dole office to be certain.

That was pretty much exactly my experience. It was 2-3 weeks (can't remember now) before the payments went directly into my bank account. Prior to this I went in to work an hour later on Wednesday mornings, so I could call in to the post office at 9am to collect payment.
