Mouldy bottles

    have little spots of black mould in the bottom of some of my glass bottles. boiling water doesn't even get it off completely.

    Anybody have any easy quick fixes?

    A spot of neat thin bleach and a few minutes to soak, then more boiling water and scrub with a bottling brush.

    when you say neat does that mean undiluted, dont have a scrub brush that'll reach to the bottom. may have to purchase one!

    A bottle brush is well worth having.

    Last time I had a stubborn mould-in-bottle problem, I tipped a small measure of thin bleach in, swirled it, left it, put some boiling water on top of it and poked it with a bottle brush until it was gone.

    If you have no brush you could just leave it steep a while in the bleach.

    if you have no brush and only a few specks of mould the tip of a long handled wooden spoon or something along those lines might allow you to poke the mould loose after a soak

    the bleach & boiling water thing done the job with most of them and I used a BBQ skewer to shift the real stubborn bits on a few bottles. Bottled up 39 500ml bottles of bourbon vanilla porter Sunday night @ 6.8%. Six bloody weeks bottle conditioning now:(

    "bourbon vanilla porter" sounds nice. :D
    Is this a kit or all-grain recipe?

    you know your gonna be tasting after 2-3 weeks, don't deny it :)

    Didn't realize this thread was still going. Here's the link to the recipe. One of the most expensive brews I've done and if I'm honest it was just 'alright'.
