Recording DTT via USB stick using WMC

Apologies if this is more a htpc question than a saorview one but I have a couple of questions for those using a USB stick for their saorview reception.

I only have an indoor aerial with playTV in my living room so reception can be hit and miss. I also picked up a DTT USB stick which means I can put the laptop in the upstairs bedroom and get a more consistent reception for scheduling recordings in WMC. However I don't want to watch TV on my laptop so how are people watching their recordings on tv?
My tv doesn't support DLNA although the ps3 will but the streaming from WMC stutters.
What set ups do people have or would recommend? Having a PS3 DVD recorder, sky box and Zeppelin plugged into the tv is plenty without adding my laptop for playing back tv.

my sat/dvb-t cards are in a htpc connected to my projector, so no issues there. when you say the ps3 is stuttering, is is connected wirelessly? wireless is extremely problematic for video, the throughput is there but the QOS isn't

there are very few things that can act as a remote externder for MCE. the only realistic option is an xbox 360

Yeh it's a wireless connection, has worked fine in the past for lower res avi's but maybe the bitrate is too high on saorview recordings. I suspect my routers to blame, it lowers it's throughput to the lowest of all connected devices so no device should get overwhelmed with data buts that's hampering hd streaming obviously.

I'll have to do some tinkering.

    Thanks.

In theory a "G type" wireless network should work but in practice it struggles with SD and has canaries with HD. My router and PC are "N type" but the laptop is only G. Hardwiring the laptop to the router plays HD fine but defeats the reason for wireless.
    Hope that helps.

you need to look at more than speed. the rates given are a peak speed, video needs a constant connection, so even N network won't work if the speed drops regularily

Have an "N" router but think PS3 is probably at best "G" capable and even at that netstumbler reads my network as only 43MBps so speeds are probably too slow. I'll disconnect everything except n laptop and see what I can do with that on a clear channel.

Are you guys exclusively using it for live tv or recording editing etc.. too?

    43Mb/sec i'd imagine..:)

that would be more than enough for video, blu-ray is less than that, the issue is you need it to remain at that speed constantly, with no drops, which doesn't happen with wireless

My point exactly. In Theory it should work but..
I use it mainly for watching shows recorded on the other device as needed. HD sometimes works if it can buffer enough to the laptop but falls down if there is a lot of action.
