VPNing using HTML5

    Just wondering if anyone has experience with VPNing using HTML5?

    I'm considering a Chromebook as I'd like the fast startup in order to log into my Work Network (Currently using Cisco VPN and RDP).

    I see it's possible to do something similar using ThinVNC - I installed a server on my personal Windows7 laptop and was able to login using Chrome on my personal Mac- however the VPN software refused to connect to my Work Network.

    I think I need to create a server to bridge to the secure/VPN network which then acts as a web server for the WebClient?

    I believe that Google/ChromeOS are working on this but if I'm missing anything obvious please let me know!

    (Logmein etc won't work as I can't install stuff on my work PC and in any case I wouldn't be able to connect to the network)

    I'd assume your work connection is firewalled, VPN + VNC require a direct connection.

    Your answer = teamviewer!

    Best of luck :)

    I don't think this is exactly what I had in mind - I usually work remotely with VPN and RDP from my own laptop - I would like to be able to do the same thing occasionally from a random Internet enabled tablet/pc without installation. It's not of huge importance though, just curious really

    I can't install anything on the remote PC I connect to so I think that rules out teamviewer :(

    BTW your username doesn't inspire a huge amount of trust on first impresssions :)

    an interesting name :D none the less

    I thing what you seeking isn't possible as VPN is secure and what your seeking is allowing VPN on unsecured machines without any configuration.

    There is another way to do this and that is set up a privet web portal.
    Not sure if this would be practical for you or would meet your needs

    yeah, there's a company that host a webportal and act as an intermediary to say your corporate network;
    there's also a way to access your own machine running an Apache server - I installed it a while ago but can't remember the details - think it was the teamviewer referenced above
