There seems to be a lot of talk about sportives and charity events but this one http://www.welcomehome.ie/ never seem to be mentioned on this site or the CI list of events

Maybe to do with the €400 suggested sponsorship

Has anyone done it, or anyone doing it this year?

Have done the Wexford cycle a few times. Usually a good day out & well supported/run.
The €400 suggested sponsorship is off putting and I have never raised that much, I just set up a page on mycharity.ie and they are happy enough with whatever they get in the end.
It can work out to be very expensive in the end between registration/paying for hotel and dinner if you stay the night.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.

Anyone planning on doing this later this month? I'm signed up and looking forward to my first such event.

It's 136 kms and the route is south - off the main roads as much as possible - from UCD in Dublin to Wexford.

I've done 120 kms and 100 kms cycles on my own in the recent past and regularly do a hilly (1300 metre climb) 84 kms at the weekends. I've heard the route for the Wexford cycle isn't too hilly so hopefully I'll be OK, but if anyone has any tips, I'm all ears.

Oh, and if anyone would like to sponsor me, I'll be happy to respond to any PM with the link to my mycharity page ;)

Completed this yesterday, it was tough after the 100km as that was the longest I had done but delighted to have completed it :)

A huge thanks to all the volunteers for their amazing support :)

    Raised about €600!

Also did it. The route itself is relatively easy to be honest, other than Callery Hill at Killmacanogue which is at the start (about 20km in I think) there are no real hills.

For a charity cycle I was surprised of the pace of the event, it was pretty fast.

Plenty of food at the food stops, of which there are ~10 so you can pick and choose when to stop.

All in all good but to be honest I think I'd find it difficult to raise the money every year.

I did this too - my first such event.

Even though its not a race, well, I did have to ask the guy doing the timing where I came in ... And had the whole thing tracked by Strava ...

It's a great cause & I'm a bit in awe of people like Fr. McVerry.

I also did this on Saturday. It was very well organised and we'll supported. Great weather for a spin, glad I wasn't doing it today.
Does anyone know if the times will be put up on the website?
    Thanks

The guy doing the timing told me they would be put up but I don't see any numbers for last year. Then again, I am a newbie and maybe this is the first year they did timing ...

And yes, great organisation throughout the day. Loads of well spaced stops and I even had a Guard stop traffic in Arklow (I think?) just for little ol' me when going through a roundabout. If only it could always be like that ;)
