Tokyo Marui shottys are really great. They shoot 3 bb's at once and have great range. Fab for cqb. They're not cheap and are hard to come by, but they are tough, light and they're very reliable.

    I love it anyway.

thanks but would you say they can be used against AEGs effectively

I've only seen them used effectivly in CQB, semi only games. The tri-shot shotties seem to be very effective then.

Never seen a shottie used in woodland though.

It's not the gun that makes everything 'work', it's the user. If you go toe-to-toe with an AEG on their terms, of course you're at a disadvantage. So play them on your terms where possible instead. That may not seem like the definitive 'yes/no' affirmation answer you were after, but it's nonetheless correct.

I've used an m1 Garand with a single 8-round magazine against users wielding m4 stubbies and hi-cap magazines in CQB, and come out on top. It's all in how you approach your play-style; you'll have to change it to suit whatever you're using be it a shotgun, a pistol, stubbie-thriller, assault rifle, sniper rifle, support gun, etc. and in whatever environment you find yourself playing.

very competitive against aeg in the right hands, seen people use them as a primary at events without issue you just need to use the right tactics

and lets not forget the apparent advantage . if you run out of bbs you can easily turn it round and go "Babe Ruth" mental specially on people that dont call their hits :pac::pac: j/k i dont condone physical violence in airsoft.. there is always a pub near you to blow off some steam :pac::pac: (again j/k) :D:D

You may get some good info from this thread. Some good solid discussion on this very topic :)

I've used a tri-shot in CQB, never in woodland. To be honest it's because I haven't bothered bringing it. The car is normally jam-packed with rifles, so bringing one that probably wouldn't be used is not very...practical.

There is no denying that shotguns are a lot of fun. I still haven't gotten around to picking up my shell ejecting shotty - just a lot of expense; shotgun, metal body (G&P...because I am vain), shells, shell catcher...sounds about right :D

The main thing that puts me off using a shotgun more often is the fact I can't find a full metal one, that's under the limit for me to import.
There are a few but they are all over with no way to downgrade. The plastic just dosen't do it for me :(

Maruzen M870 with G&P Metal body is a good one. You can use the shell ejection, or you can use a Maruzen CA870 instead, and use a magazine.

They're legal to use, and full metal...but expensive when you add in all the costs

I full metal one came up on adverts recently. Don't know the make. Im a bit suspicious of it regarding the power...

I looked at importing the Maruzen one before, but price I couldn't justify :(

As others have said, Any airsoft device is effective, it just takes the right attitude for the user... shotguns and pistols are completely effective against aegs, but in a different tactical aproach.

Is it worth going for the Tokyo Marui over the Firepower one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Yes and no... The system while good, can be stressful... the TM is tough, and ive seen them last a long time... the durability of the parts in the clone is uncertain even at this time... and I've had one myself... difference is dependant on use... didn't have mine long enough to really say 'yay' or 'ney' on reliability. I've heard some have failed. For the price however... its possibly better.

Can you get spare shells for the firepower one or...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭Inari

The Firepower one is a direct clone of the TM design, and as such the TM's shells work in the clone. But you can also get the clone shells too. The great asian retailers (i.e. RSOV, Ehobby etc) are your friend for those kinds of things :)

If I remember correctly, Strikearms have a couple of packs of shells - may be worth posting in their thread to find out?

might i just say the asg sas 12 that was on mia for 30 euro a while back, is an incredible gun! fires straight and is very accurate, the scope that came with it was completely useless, but the ris rails on the gun work very well. as it had no stock it is highly manoeuvrable very handy for the corners in hrta. unfortunately its a only a single shot but shoots where you point it, if you come across one in adverts i would advise you pick it up:)

I love using shotguns and find them very effective. I have used a clone M3 as a backup in woodlands and it proved very effective one day when my AEG went down on me. I had to get closer compared to an AEG but once in range and with eyes on the opposition I was able to hold my own. Given that one would only pop out for a snap shot you are sending 3 bbs at a go with a nice spread and decent odds of hitting.

You can't suppress in the same way and it is not as useful for "recon by fire" but can still be effective. CQB is where is really shines though. I played with a TM SPAS12 as a primary in the office block last week and had oh so much fun. I stopped counting after 25 odd hits so it is definitely effective. They play with burst there but you are not at much of a disadvantage. I could reach the length of any of the corridors accurately, again with a good spread. On defense it's a case of covering doors at close to medium range, body side one with gun presented (easier to maintain as most are lightweight). As soon as someone appears, single shot and immediately duck into cover, rack and repeat.

On attack you have to close effectively. In one case for example we had a few people pinned down at the end of a short corridor by one opposing player. One shot to make him put his head in, immediately start walking the corridor while opening the angle as much as possible and shottie presented where he is going to appear again. Head pops out and with the spread, easy hit before he can duck into cover again. It can also be useful whenever you are going to pop out for a quick shot - the spread really works.

The most important thing though is that they are huge fun and hits are much more satisfying than anything else I have experienced. Racking between each shot has a cool factor, especially for the TM SPAS 12 which has a very satisfying "clunk" noise.

Go for it with the attitude that you will change your play style but sure for me that variety is part of the fun of airsoft.
