Hi, I left Ireland at the end of April and started working in the Uk, I have completed my P50 DOC but one of the questions is 'Please state the duration of your stay abroad'?

I intend on working here for a few years, so its not as if I can put a definite timescale on the application. I presume the revenue just want me to confirm that I will not be returning within the Irish tax year, can anyone with any tax knowledge advise? Thanks

That's asked more or less to try and figure out if you'll be Irish tax resident or not. So, I've you were tax resident in Ireland, any income earned abroad would need to be taken into consideration when calculating your refund. This could only be done after the end of the year.

If you would no longer be tax resident, I.e. Abroad for 2 or more years, they can finalise the current tax year for you straight away

I put "unknown" on mine and it all went through within the week before I left

    Bump!

My P50 was posted to the Revenue last Friday. Any idea how long it will take before my account is credited with my rebate?

Just like anything else in this world, it depends how busy the department you sent it to is and how well resourced they are. It could be a week or it could be 8 weeks. Usually at this time of year it could be in the middle at 4 weeks, so long as everything is fine with your claim.

It may also depend on how soon you sent in the P50 after been made unemployed .

You are requested to wait 4 weeks at least before sending it in normally.

If you became unemployed and are claiming a Benefit , it is suggested you wait 8 weeks before sending in P50.

and in this case , your amount of benefit been received would determine whether you do receive a refund or not

    Hi
Just a question in relation to p50. Left the country to work abroad and sent in the form 4 weeks after leaving Irish job. Received a letter from Revenue back home stating that they cannot process any refund until I submit proof of income from Canada after Dec 31st.

Is this a new procedure? I know other people in the past have got refunds no problem and i'm not even working in Canada yet but when I do i'll be paying tax there as well.

    Thanks
