Do you think that Ireland's copyright laws create barriers to innovation? Do you think that a US-style ‘fair use’ doctrine twould be appropriate in an Irish or EU context? If so, make a submission to the Copyright Review Committee (a short email will do), and please come along to our public meeting next Monday.

    This is a great initiative.

I expect that you will hear from ISPs and telecom companies during this consultation. I tend to agree with them in that they are being held up as litigation marks in Ireland. While this group is not dealing with the Department of Enterprise SI on Statutory Injunctive relief it makes sense to codify the eCommerce Defences mere conduit, hosing and caching in national primary law.

The various eCommerce Directive defences are already part of Irish law; are you suggesting that they should be enhanced in some way?

You are right that we are likely to hear a lot from copyright-holders and large ISPs. We would be delighted to hear from users and start-ups.
