Apple TV Gen 2 - unable to update, Think Apple are aware of the problem

    Hi All,

I have my gen 2 apple tv for a couple of months now, I was up to date on software when I got it, I think however I'm now one version out. I jail broke it and put the usual stuff on it XBMC ice films etc as discussed in the other threads here.

I hadn't really used the Jailbreak on it and the thing was constantly turning on so I had been deciding to restore the software through the apple TV itself but it failed, so I left it go for a few months

I had it connected through a HDMI cable connecting to a DVI connector to my old TV and now I've gotten a new TV I plugged it in through just the HDMI cable but I don't have a picture, I think that might be something to do with a setting for the DVI connector.

Anyway I thought what better time to restore it than now? so I plugged it into my mac-book pro running the latest version of Lion and clicked restore, the software starts downloading and as soon as its downloaded
it says the file has been corrupted and to try again and to unplug and plug back in the device, I tried a couple of times and kept getting the same error, I also tried downloading it without the apple tv plugged in and same again.

I also tried downloading the software from a different site and tried loading it manually, I got an error and it was in the the error no was 3xxx (cant remember the numbers)

I also loaded the apple TV into a virtual machine (windows 7) and got the same errors so I dont think its Lion? (but the contradiction there is that the virtual machine is on Lion......anyway I digress

After looking on the apple website Its down to 2 possible solutions 1 was to update iTunes (its the most up to date iTunes) so no go there

the other basically said that there was issues communicating with apples servers and verifying stuff.

I googled the error messages and found 2 different threads on apples discussion forums basically saying the same thing, people cant update their apple TV's and that there is an issue with apples servers?

Has anyone else tried updating there apple tv's lately? Are you having an issue too?

my next suggestion was to try updating it through a dell laptop with windows 7 to completely rule out the mac-book but after that I'm a bit stumped and I don't particularly want to call apple as its currently jail broken and if they want to take it for repair then Crazyderk could be in a wee bit of trouble with Mr Jobs!

There is already an apple tv thread.

apple products fail to restore all the time, the trick is to keep trying diffrent configurations. But it will restore that's for sure.
