The 1896 election had two lasting impacts on American life. First, it launched an era of Republican dominance that enabled the GOP to occupy the White House for 28 out of the next 36 years. The second impact was that it may have inspired “The Wizard of Oz,” a classic American tale that became an annual staple of prime time television in the pre-Cable, pre-Internet era. [more]
I have this movie ON VHS :)

And for such a classic,THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO WATCH IT! (Looks and sounds the best it can)

I always thought the director had used time-travel to deliberately sych it with Dark Side of the Moon. Or was that the other way around?

I watched that documentary, its available on opensource.tv. Very, very interesting film. Based on the evidence, it seems clear that the story was a parable about economics. I recommend watching the documentary.

Most interesting were the changes between the original book and the Hollywood film, which numbed the economic message, even though by the time the Hollywood film was made, the message of the book was very old and no-one would have gotten the references.

The documentary explains them very well, but I'm not so sure of the overall economic solution it seems to be going for.
