Gaga loves Maiden

I took this from a Soni forum which was taken from Rolling Stone, I thought it was quite cool, apologies if it was posted before

Whilst attending a show on Iron Maiden’s current world tour, Lady Gaga has managed to sum up how awesome the feeling of a metal show (and the metal community at large) can be in a world lacking internet trolls, moaners and elitest metaulz nazis.

I went to see Iron Maiden the other night, and I actually watched the show from a box and we were laughing as we walked — it was me and my two best friends… as we were walking into the box, we had a bunch of drinks, we were all going, ‘This is so not metal, to be in a box.’ [laughs] So we watched most of the show from the box and then we were gonna go meet the band. And we went down during ‘The Number Of The Beast’. And when we got there, I grabbed Lady Starlight and I said, ‘Let’s go,’ and we just booked it into the centre of the crowd.”

“We were dancing and singing and everyone was just so into it,” Gaga continues. “And it was one of the first times I’ve been able to just be at a rock concert in a long time. People did recognize me, but it was so kind and warm and awesome. I mean, Iron Maiden is all about, ‘We don’t care who our fans are. We love everybody.’ ”

“I guess what I’m trying to say is the devotion of the fans moving in unison, pumping their fists, watching the show, when I see that, I see the paradigm for my future and the relationship I want to have with my fans. Iron Maiden’s never had a hit song, and they tour stadiums around the world, and their fans live, breathe and die for Maiden, and that is my dream. That is my dream.”

“And not only that, but when we got into the crowd, there was no pretension. I’m a pop singer — I didn’t know what it would be like in a crowd of a Maiden fans; everybody was hugging me, high-fiving, fistpumps in the air… ‘Oh, it’s so cool you’re at Maiden.’ Jumping and dancing…I mean, it was like absolute no judgment, no prejudice, freedom and love for music. It doesn’t matter who you are; you don’t need to know anything about music to love it. And it was just so… It was just awesome… Maiden changed my life.”

"Hi, I'm Lady Gaga and I'm soooooooo mass-produced I'm in to EVERYTHING you like too! Isn't that great? Yeah some suits come around and tell me what to do and wear and I've got this really inane crap music and clothing style that the kiddies love because the media have created this air of mystery about me."

Her and everything else in the charts can go and f*ck off.

Not a fan of her myself but she isnt making millions for no reason so she is no gobshíte and she is also a metal fan. As said in the article above, she sums up the feelings of a metal gig nicely.

She also says Maiden never had a hit which is not true as Bring your Daughter was No 1 in the UK as well as other Top10 hits they had in the UK, but I suppose Maiden can go Fúck off as the were in the charts:P

Ah ok then. Let me put it another way. Decent rock and\or metal haven't been in the charts for...........um..........years. I'd even hazard a guess at mid nineties. I was referring to all the mass produced garbage (including Gaga). It's the industry. She's told what to say and suddenly you have people going "Oh! She's in to all that stuff too? She MUST be awesome!" She's not.

I'm not even sure why I'm so vocal against her. I think it's the evil mass-marketing aspect of the genre that gets to me.

Agreed. I am not a fan of her and her music or mass produced X Factor type bollócks. She has millions of people following her like cattle tho which is beyond me . I doubt they are going to start listening to Maiden based on her opinion though.

I posted it purely for the way she portrayed the feeling at a metal gig which we all know is amazing:)

True, but here's an edited version of her quote. Let's see if you get my point in this (I'm sure there is one).
Whilst attending a show on Justin Bieber’s current world tour, Lady Gaga has managed to sum up how awesome the feeling of a metal show (and the metal community at large) can be in a world lacking internet trolls, moaners and elitest popaulz nazis.

I went to see Justin Bieber the other night, and I actually watched the show from a box and we were laughing as we walked — it was me and my two best friends… as we were walking into the box, we had a bunch of drinks, we were all going, ‘This is so not pop, to be in a box.’ [laughs] So we watched most of the show from the box and then we were gonna go meet the band. And we went down during ‘<insert one of his singles here>’. And when we got there, I grabbed Lady Starlight and I said, ‘Let’s go,’ and we just booked it into the centre of the crowd.”

“We were dancing and singing and everyone was just so into it,” Gaga continues. “And it was one of the first times I’ve been able to just be at a pop concert in a long time. People did recognize me, but it was so kind and warm and awesome. I mean, Justin Bieber is all about, ‘We don’t care who our fans are. We love everybody.’ ”

“I guess what I’m trying to say is the devotion of the fans moving in unison, pumping their fists, watching the show, when I see that, I see the paradigm for my future and the relationship I want to have with my fans. Justin Bieber’s never had a hit song, and they tour stadiums around the world, and their fans live, breathe and die for Bieber, and that is my dream. That is my dream.”

“And not only that, but when we got into the crowd, there was no pretension. I’m a pop singer — I didn’t know what it would be like in a crowd of a Bieber fans; everybody was hugging me, high-fiving, fistpumps in the air… ‘Oh, it’s so cool you’re at Bieber.' See how vague and interchangeable it is?

    :pac:

Ha Ha, I see what you're saying ( tho I did read somewhere before that she is actually a Maiden fan)

Do you think it would have been more believeable if it had of been Slayer?
Or would Slayer fans have murdered her in a mosh?

In my opinion it's all BS by her because they chose her to talk about a "gateway" (to put it one way) rock/metal band. Don't get me wrong I like Maiden but see that's the thing. Everyone does. It's like you have the die hard fans, but you also have the ones who go "yeah they've actually got a few decent singles. I'd like to see them live".

Fans are fans, but they can still be classed in this way. My other example would be G'n'R. Can't stand them myself, but I know plenty who love them and who aren't in to other rock and metal bands.

So it was a clever ploy by her (read: her manager) to say all this.

I think the world would be done a huge favour if they did. (Referring to your Slayer mosh).

How can you doubt her credibility when she has also been seen like totally rocking out to Metallica!?

Easy on lads, nothing wrong with a bit of Gaga :p

I don't know why ye're all complaining about it being "mass-produced"... do you mean "well-produced" or just "popular"...? In my opinion she's a smart songwriter and if you listen closely you can hear the influence metal has had on her, the songs have an edge which you won't find in manufactured pop acts and that appeals to me.

The girl worked her way up from the very bottom, she pens her own material, has a cracking voice and works her arse off for gay rights so I for one would rather she didn't meet her end in a Slayer pit. For the record though, that Born This Way song does my head in

I despise her music but I must admit that her tunes are well written and unfortunately they stick into your head.
I was zapping a couple of weeks ago and I ended up seeing 1 of her concert: she is a real performer, with a good voice and she put on a great show.
I am a bit ashamed to admit that I watched the concert till the end, and is it just me or she reminds me in some way of Marilyn Manson? ;)

For what regards my point of view she did nothing wrong going to a Maiden concert especially if she talks about them and the metal scene in good terms.

haha, I only just have a slight admiration for her because she seems to be one of the only pop singers these days who actually have some song writing credibility (the live piano videos are quite good). Her tunes are catchy as f*ck. Besides, raging and flaming against mainstream pop music is absolutely pointless in my opinion, it is what it is...a quick and easy fix of catchy popular music for those dancing in clubs or (lesser minded :D) music listeners who haven't ventured any further in their music appreciation and discovery. There's really no point in fighting it, at least we have the underground!

I actually remember one of her albums (along with a Regina Spektor album or two) were the only non-metal albums on my Ipod. Friends who were looking through my ipod were amazed to see an artist like Lady Gaga sitting comfortably nearby Prostitute Disfigurement! though that said I never even listened to it from my ipod

Well, she has a similarly massive style/substance ratio...

Ride her or cage her scudzilla - funniest thing I've read in ages.
I like some of her tunes. Who gives a ****, she is pop and good at it.

I think the link between Gaga and Manson would be their persona.

People of all walks knew who Manson was due to his persona rather than his music.
While giving off vibes off all things Satan, death and evil he probably sits at home listening to Stryper records

Didn't Saxon's Biff take his daughter to see her and was invited backstage as she was a big metal/Saxon fan too. I remember something vague like that happening a while back.

I don't know what ye're on about. Gaga has loads of talent. She's actually a genuinely talented pop star, which is pretty rare these days. She sings live, she's a classically trained pianist, she writes her own music. I don't see how anyone could knock her on talent. Yes, her image is very contrived and she's a bit annoying in interviews with the way she goes on, but she's definitely talented. No doubt about that.

Yeah, she reminds me of him too. I think it'd be closer to the truth to say that she takes more inspiration from Manson than Iron Maiden.

I saw her at a festival a few years ago, outdoor/bad sound so it wasn't great. I think her Dad was a 70's rock fan and she grew listening to Queen/Bowie so I wouldn't be suprised if she released a rock tune at some stage. Like her or loathe her she has plenty of talent.

Can't believe we're talking Gaga in the Rock & Metal forum :pac: but while we are...
    GrizzlyMan wrote: »

    Hardly talentless.
She can sing well, she can play the piano well and she writes her own material and before she wrote her own stuff she was writing stuff for other artists.

She's not X-factor, but she is well marketed and her image is carefully manufactured...although she does add to that image herself. I've a lot of respect for her...even if I don't like her music.

As for her opinion on Maiden. She obviously knows F**k all about them but she understood the appeal of Maiden to their fans and that is something she craves.

I'll give her one thing; she can play the piano well. But I can't stand her songs, or her thing of acting weird for the sake of acting weird. She will probably fade into obscurity at some point in the future, cause that's generally the way pop music goes.

    Give me metal any day.

Um, not quite, she liked the way the fans idolise Maiden. This is what Gaga craves for herself and talks about a lot. So what she really loved was that aspect of Maiden. I didn't read anything about her saying she preferred NOTB to SSOASS :) She didn't even know that they had commercial success.

As for Maiden being crap, it's all subjective, even if you dislike them you can't deny their influence. Even Megadeth and Metallica rave about Maiden (not that I've time for either of those bands these days! :()

Well yeah...she doesn't mention Maiden songs or albums, but the inference one can get from it is that she likes them given that she went to a maiden gig and enjoyed it, including the crowd interaction. She doesn't have to be know anything about them either.

As for Maiden being crap all their songs sound the same, on number of the beast 90% of the songs use variations on the same 1-3-5 chord progression. Bruce Dick just warbles, can't maintain his vocal tuning and calls it operatic singing. And their stage show is gay. Megadeth have always sucked, its just pure technique, like how fast they play a few scales on guitar, there is a reason Metallica sold more records, because they wrote better songs and the Black Album is their best record.
