Virus/spyware removing software from my computer?

It's come to my attention due to a family member clicking on those fake anti-virus advertisements, it has possibly infected my computer with software. Naturally, I consider using System Restore and Recovery. I do not appear to have recieved an operating disc with my computer. I use Windows Vista.

Unfortunately, what has ever infected my computer has removed certain programs. It will not allow the likes of Microsoft Office or Internet Explorer to loads, and similarly with System Restore and System Recovery. It requests I select a program from the computer to run it.

Is there any suggestion as to how to get around this?

This is a common problem after fake anti virus or anti malware programs end up on your pc.

    Look at this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950505

Once you get the programs running again download update and scan with both SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes (one at a time).

Are you running an antivirus program.
