    i just got upc in and i rang to ask them for extra tv points."how many would you like ?" she asked me. when i said three please she said that will be 90 euro per room sir.! so i said no thanks and decided to put three splitters on. but the question is, will this effect my broadband an phone because i can split the signal off the box just inside the house.? i haven`t done it yet untill i`ve gotten some kind of feedback from someone that has tried and tested this..thanks

    every time you split the signal you are taking 3.5db of the levels into the modem, you should check the power level being received by the modem because if the levels are border line you could shut down the broadband. on your laptop type in the web address 192.168.100.1 or else 192.168.1.1 and read the power levels on the modem, if there is a level or power less than -4db or upstream power level of over 52db i would not split it.

    Hi Jonner how did it work out for you? I have quite a large room ( L - shaped ) with an existing UPC outlet with a Tv in place working fine. I want to put another small tv around the corner beside where we eat. If i get the cabling and splitter can i simply feed a new upc connection from this original wire that supplies the main tv? Cut original UPC wire insert Y splitter feed main tv and new small one.

    If your set top box is one that has two scart sockets you could connect the second tv that way using a scart lead. This depends of course on how far away the second tv is. That is what I did, & it worked fine using a 3m scart lead & was able to have both tvs watchable at the same time.

    Unfortunately, when I switched to HD the set top box only has one scart socket . Both TVs can't be watched at the same time unless you watch analogue on one - to watch the second tv I have to pull the HDMI cable out of the main tv enough to disconnect it & push it back in to watch main tv again. It's a little awkward but I can live with it for the few times i use the second tv.

    This might be another option for you, especially if you don't have a HD box & your second tv has a scart socket.

    hi ronan, yes you can do it that way if you want but if you are coming off the upc point and into the second telly you are only going to receive the basic few channels like rte 1,2 - utv , bbc 1,2 because you are bypassing your upc box. it wont effect your signal and should you want to watch film channels or sports you can just plug out and connect your box to the other telly..hope this helps

    yeah ronan you should be ok as long as you split from your upc point and not your other tv. i have two boxes, one is recordable and the other is standard and there`s no degredation on the signal so you should be ok. even my broadband is ok but remember to make good tight clean connections..

    When you ordered second box (if you got it from them!) did they wonder why you needed a second as you only had one connection? I was going to order a second box on 'self install' and there's a line;
    Due to differences in outlet boxes, not all connections are suitable for self-install. A member of our team will confirm if your outlet box is eligible or if a technician is required.

    I've tried existing box in the other room with the unoffical wall socket and it works fine so I was going to order a second box but don't want to end up when them wanting to drill holes in the wall.

    hi Datk, if you`ve tried your existing box and it works fine then there`s no need to order another point, it`ll cost u 90€, if you can,just order the extra box on line. it will be delivered by courier and you can easily self install it. if you have sports and movies it will cost u 40€ to activate them or 20€ seperatley. if you order by phone just tell them they are existing points because they don`t know if the last company (NTL) installed them or not. hope this helps... john
