    hi,
im currently in a fas course for i.t technician course the last year, my course is comin to an end in the next 2 weeks. during my course i had to do 16 weeks of work experience, im currently on work experience now working in a pc repair shop. the guy im working for wants me to do work placement with when my course is over because he has no one else to work in the shop (i work in it on my own).
i just wanted to know can anyone shed some light on this programme for me because i know its been changed recently and i cant seem to find any solid info on what i need to do, what my employer needs to do and what money will i get ie...will i get anything extra from social, will my employer have to pay me a small wage or how long it lasts.
    any info would help
    thanks in advance

After your course you'll have to apply for JSA or similar - You wont make anything extra than if you were just on JSA. Your employer doesnt have to give you anything extra and it last from anything up to 9 months.

On a side note, does the company make much money? how long would it take to train somebody else to do what you do? do you think you could find a paying job with the skills you have?

If you do WPP it looks like the employer is totally taking advantage of you, maybe ask him to 'Suppliment' you dole with a hundred or 2 a week.

If your the sole employee in a PC repair shop, why would't you get paid?

i would not get a job because of lack of experience.the guy i work for has only opened the shop 8-9 weeks ago and he asked me to go on wpp until the shop gets more business and he can pay me full time wage. he currently gives me some money for working in the shop and will continue to do so when im on the wpp so to be honest its a win win for both of us i make a extra few quid he has an employee for a small fee its not big money but the way i see it is its a little more than the dole and i get some experience along the way.

TBH if your the only guy in the shop you must have the Exp, besides in most jobs we learn as we do, you never know everything

i have experience with taking laptops apart, trouble shooting and virus removal etc etc but theirs still things my course didn't cover like soldering new usb ports or dc power jacks to motherboards that i have no training in so he usually brings it to another guy to do that stuff. but its not often those things have to be done so im usually ok on my own. for anything else im stuck on i can just ring him for advice etc it helps too when he's helpful and understands that im obviously not going to know everything from the get-go

so thats why im here trying to find out what sort of benifits will i get on wpp so i can learn these things and move on to a propper full time job with an actual wage with him or someone else.
