Motivational mantras?

Hmm, think I butchered my first attempt at posting this.

I stubled on one that was terse and catchy "when the body says no the mind says go" (or swop body/mind).

The other I liked was along the lines of "if you feel in control, you're not going fast enough" (for the end of a race, of course ;)).

Anyone got any favourite mantras for racing?

That's a big one in the US Army.
"Excuses are the crutches of the weak" is another favourite.

If I have to go uphill sometimes I use:

    'Eat...up...that...hill'

which I like because it because I can say it between drawing breaths... It's also good because when you are looking down at the road, you really are eating up the hill metre by metre.

Mantras are things you repeat to yourself over and over - but some of the items on that thread are motivational concepts.

Mantras are what you'd repeat to yourself on a difficult run for example as a psychological exercise to either keep you strong and overcome a challenge.

    "Make every 3 seconds count"

Be it descending a short technical section, or getting around a corner, or catching the person in front or getting in/out of transition.
Make every second work for you. If you knock off 10 x 3seconds... Your 30sec up already. You'd be surprised how many seconds you drop by been silly

Thats a very good one. I remember saying something similar in a 10k race earlier this year. "I dont need to improve by a min I only need to run 2.5 secs quicker per 400 rep". Things are so much easier when you break them down as much as you can
