Mines in between Arklow and Rathdrum

    Hello there,
I was wondering would anyone be able to shed some light on the nature of the mines (or what appears to me to be evidence of old mining activity)
visible from the train beside the line between Arklow and Rathdrum?
The ground stone around the structures is really yellowy brown.
I pass them a fair bit and I was curious.
I suppose it woud be more accurate to say in between Rathdrum and Avoca.
Thanks in advance for any responses!

I've walked the red and white routes around the avoca mines and very good they are too. And the views from the Mottee stone and the miners cross are well worth the effort. Estimate about 3.5 hours of walking time for both routes combined - add more time for lunch, viewing and general exploration. Ample parking opposite the pub at the meeting of the waters.
