US Airways is €465 to La Guardia but there's a stopover in Charlotte.

Does that include taxs and charges..that could bring the price up to 600 again.

    Yeah, that's the full price.

    BA.com

From Cork via LHR for about €640... €40 less if you come back a day or two earlier.

yes ebookers is a trusty website! also go onto lastminute.ie, go to flights only and select the may dates are flexible - / + 3 days, they can be had for as little as E378.50 return in september!

ebookers and lastiminute are both trustworthy and are some of the largest players in the online travel market.

Checkout skyscanner.net, (a brilliant airline price comparison website) I just did a check there and Dublin to Newark with Continental is coming in at €384 departing the 7th of Sept and return the 18th, then check ebookers and expedia for a comparison also and book whichever is the cheapest.

To get a return flight to New York for this money is a steal really, the cheapest I ever paid was around €520 with Aer Lingus and when you think about it any sort of European flight with Aer Lingus will cost you the bones of €200, so with these sort of fares now is a good time to visit the US and the dollar is weak against the euro also, actually now is a better time to visit a US city than a European city, trans-Atlantic fares like these also makes for cheap travel to south america and the carribbean also!

Id say i am going to use ebookers..

Using ebookers i have a few questions:
Do you check in at the airport to get your ticket?

Is it extra for luggage?I wouldnt bring too much but i need at least one bag.

On a side note, does anyone know how much it would cost to get a flight from ny to phoenix..im planning on staying 3 or 4 days in ny then heading down to phoenix to catch up with a few friends. I want one of my friends in ny to book the ticket down with him..Would that be possible when i wont be with him as well?

As your going trans-atlantic you usually get one bag included in your booking of around 20-23Kgs (usually 50lbs with US carriers) this varies from airline to airline so check their website. Just take your itinerary print-out you get with you however as some times they ask to see it and more times they won't; but it still better to have the itinerary with you just encase.

I normally just check-in for flight by presenting my passport and they have a record of it, takes my bags, presents me with the boarding pass and give you your baggage reclaim tag (which is important if they were to lose your bags!)

A good website for flights in the US is Kayak.com which will compare flight prices, a quick check I done put flights in the $200 - $250 price range, 5 airlines fly between the two cities, Delta, Continental, Jetblue, SouthWest and US Airways and really it depends on your budget and location e.g. if you were out long island Newark airport would be less convenient than JFK.

Your friend can book the flight for the two of ye so long as he has your details and make sure he books it in the name on your passport, eg. your known as Billy but your name is William or Mick but you were baptised Michael etc, I am not sure if it would ask for your passport number or date of birth but if needed he will have to input them! Other than that there would be no trouble booking a flight and travelling together with him!

Next question is do i need to get some type of visa,im going on the 7th of Sep to 16th of Sep.

Any recommendations on travel insurance as well.

Providing you have not messed around by overstaying in the US in the past or have a serious criminal record you don't need a Visa for the United States. However you do need to get the ESTA, which pre approves you for travel. Your Irish passport must also be valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel.

    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

It costs $14 and is valid for two years, when it came in first it was free but they have since put this charge on it. You should have no problems only be polite and show respect with the immigration officers.

If you are working or going to college it would be no harm to have a letter stating you will return to employment after your trip to the US or to study to your college after your holiday. This is not a prerequisate or anything but if they were suspicious of you as an illegal immigrant it would quickly allay their fears.

Be sure and get travel insurance with good medical coverage, avoid Axa however they are a bunch of chancers!
