just wondering what everyone brings with them to keep up your energy during 18 holes im trying to loose a bit of weight at the moment and playing a good bit of golf too but always find myself eating sugary snacks during a round the fruit doesnt really keep me going..anybody any good ideas for what food is good for a bit of energy but low enough in fat??

A banana is good I find - easy to eat and a good slow release of energy. I know you said you have tried fruit. The reason I have a banana is because it does not have to be eaten in one go. Also carry nutri-grain bars. I would like to find something else that is easy to nibble on - might try nuts and a fruit mix in a drinks container. One thing to remember is to start nibbling early - if you leave it until you feel you need then it is too late - the energy levels will decrease.
Plenty of liquids is also important.

Nature valley bars. Oats & Honey, lovely little snack on the way round. Not sure if it is but it sure feels better for you than a snickers/mars etc.

Lots of water and a banana

Banana's and plenty of wHater... Have been considering bringing out a flask a tae lately, might be pushing it if I sat down for my cuppa and fag mid round though

NB; Remember to eat all your banana's, checked bag earlier and there was something growing in it

Banana and plenty of water also, on a warm day up to 2 litres. Also carry a big bag of cashew nuts in the bag, you can get 1/2 kilo bag in Lidl for about €4 which is very cheap and will last a good few rounds. They make a tasty and convenient snack with a bit of substance out on the course

Fella in the last club i played in done that every round :D Flask and sambos and he would sit there scoffing them when usually a hold up on one of the holes.
Another lad always and without fail brings his whiskey and offers his playing partners a shot on the 16th for whatever reason every Sunday morning !
Loads of water for me, fruit and a load of pre rolled tobacco though last few days i have been getting strange looks with one of those e-cigs with other players thinking i'm going around smoking a hash pipe or something :D

when i have my fry up in the morning before i go golfing i always put on about a dozen extra rashers and a dozen extra sausages to have later on during the round. six slices of buttered bread and you can enjoy a nice healthy sandwich every few holes. if you plan on not staying around the clubhouse after your round for a bite to eat make you have an extra 12 rashers, 12 sausages and 6 slices of buttered bread to keep you going until you get home. its best to ring home too before you leave the club and let the wife know you are on the way, so she can have a fry waiting for you. nothing worse than arriving home and having to wait 20 minutes to be fed after your long day.

Reminded me of my first ever round of golf that I had put away in the Recycle Bin in my brain until now.
A lad from work asked me to go to his society outing, I did and we were paired with one of the older lads in the group. We got out to Castlewarden for our 3;30 tee time and Jim (cant remember his real name) our older playing partner had been there since half 1...in the bar. We were told he had 4 pints and 4 whiskey chasers before we got there, he swamped another 2 pints and chasers while we waited for him. He managed the first hole without going into the bag for the flask :D Solid swigs on most holes from there on.

He hit it straight as an arrow and played extremely well, 6 pints, 6 chasers and about half a bottle of whiskey inside him.
Don't want to glorify drinking but that fella was some man. The night went on long into the early hours and my last memory is of Jim standing, looking sober as, at about 3am.

    i'm crying here :D

And if you're not taking the p*ss, it's ok,
    1. I'd fancy my chances of out running you
    2. I'd prob only have to go another few months without bumping into you to be in the clear.

I keep it simple, water and a bar of chocolate. Nothing like a feed (and usually a pint) after a game. Water is most important, if I dont have enough I can physically feel the dehydration affecting my game (yeah, thats my excuse)

I normally have a sambo on the tenth tee. Start of round have a banana and towards the end a bar of choccy. During the course of the round two bottles of water, a capri sun (with the sambo) and a small can of lucozade on the 16th!!!

I might start cutting the sambos out now having read that back!

At least 1 litre of water (2x500ml bottles) topped up half way around.

If I'm organised and up in time, some cereal or small bowl of porridge before I head out but I find it a struggle to force it down pre 8am.

I love my coffee and usually don't do anything before 3 shots of espresso in the morning but avoid it before a round of golf.

Out on the course, food wise a banana and a cereal bar, maybe 2 if I've skipped breakfast. Maybe an apple instead if there are no bananas available.

I've found though if I'm going well and really in the zone, food is the last thing on my mind and I don't find myself feeling hungry. Last great round I had I came back with the same amount of food I went out with!

Nutri Grain bars, bananas and lots and lots of water... however, this trend bucks when we play in our society...

... there's always one fella who's there, but can't play for whatever reason so his job is to be the waterboy for the day. He drives around in a buddy, laden down with cans of bulmers. Its always really nice on a summers day to be supping away on a can mid way round. Tends to loosen up the swing aswell.

    Of course a Sandwich:)

None of the posters referred to the fact you want to lose the weight. Apples are good for weight watchers and a couple should help those hunger pangs. Nuts are good but in moderation as the oil in them is high in calories. I bring isotonic drinks. Tesco have a very nice raspberry one - 4 for 1.79, a lot cheaper than Lucozade. Any of my friends who bring bars, sandwiches or whatever are a little on the plump side!

    Classic!:D:D

I normally bring a couple of bananas, nutri grain bars , 2 bottle of waters and an apple. Usually does the trick, i forever nibbling away every 2 holes.

I often bring a pizza in the bag. It gets a bit cold and all on the way to the course but when you're walking down the fairway munching on a pepperoni, the fairways seem wider and the holes appear bigger. Might try a cheese one, next time. Maybe the bunkers will shrink.

    2 questions -

1 What is this society ?
    2 How do I join !!????:D

One of the lads I play golf with often has Jaffa Cakes. Seems a few people like them when playing golf. Except they eat them slowly, maybe one per hole. Me, I'd finish the packet on the first hole, so I don't bring them :D

Usually drink a litre of water, but have drank over two litres during a round. I blame a full breakfast in Mother Hubbards for that, though.

Normally LZ sport, 2 bananas and a yorkie bar, a square per hole from about the 9th.

Need to drink more fluids myself though!

Are there any nutritionists reading? Maybe they could give some advice on what to eat and when to eat, eg, before the round and when to eat during the round to have the benefit before the round is over.

Also what to drink and how often.

Always figure that I eat too late to benefit before the round ends, but not hungry before so maye have to start nibbling after say the 4th? Same with drinking. Find if I wait until I'm thirsty on a warm day its too late.

For the record, usally carry 0.5l of water, sometimes Lz sport. apple/banana, Nature valley bars, sometimes throw a funsize bag in for nibbles, handy for a little and often bite.

I bring smoothie out on course with low fat yogurt, strawberry's, bananas, raspberries and bit of honey really does the trick.. Also brings out bottle of water and apple or two.

Always makes sure I drink good pint of water before I play.

Big bottle of water, 2 bananas and 2 hard-boiled eggs (shells off and ready for eating). Lidl also have lovely breakfast bars which are very cheap but tasty. The golf bag with the built-in cool bags are brilliant.

    I'll help you out here.

You should have a green apple followed by a red apple. Then you will have had green re(a)d apples ;)

    :pac:
