Job Seekers Allowance Q....

    Hi all,

I am 24 and I am currently living with my parents, but i had planned to move out next week to find employment in the city, until i discovered my Jobseekers Benefit is up in 2wks (€188). I have heard that i will now be means tested for Jobseekers Allowance. My mother works part time and my father works full time. Can anyone give me an idea as to how much i will get on Jobseekers Allowance if (A) i stay at home with my parents or (B) move out and pay rent.

Can anyone please help me out as this has really put a spanner in the works for my plans!

    Thanks,
    Maria

Depends really on how much your parents earn. If you stay at home both of their means are included so you may get a reduced payment. If you move out you'd be entitled to about 144 euro i think it is. Thats the basic rate for a 24 year old anyway

If you're transferring from Jobseekers Benefit to Allowance, you'll get full rate of Jobseekers Allowance of 188, the lower rates for under 25s will not apply. It is of course means tested so if you have any other income of your own (or of a parnter/spouse), then this will be assessed.

Your parents can earn up to 600 Euro per week (net, and after mortgage/rent has been deducted) without it affecting your Jobseekers claim, you will lose 34% of the balance from your claim. See here for full details http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/ua_benpriv.aspx

    Hi all,

I was hoping if someone could shed some light on a question for me? I have recently lost my job unfortunately and am currently on Job Seekers Benefit, I’m 23 and renting in Dublin with my parents and family living in Cork. At the moment my granddad’s very ill in hospital and on his way out, my mom called me to let me know that I may soon have to travel home for a funereal soon. I’m really afraid because my job seekers benefit needs to be collected here in Dublin every Friday, If I need to miss that day to go home I won’t get my €180 which I’m barley paying my bill’s on at the moment. I’m not sure what to do here and am very upset; some assistance with this question would really be appreciated?

Sorry to hear about your Grandad. Your payment stays in the Post Office for at least three days. Should it happen that you miss that period and the payment is recalled from the Post Office, all you need do is go to the Social Welfare to explain your absence and it will be resent to the Post Office - it takes a few days to be released.

Inform your local SW office that you will be away , you should have no problem collecting your money but be sure to tell them.
