Sorry if this question has already been answered, but I'm relatively new to cycling and am considering buying a garmin edge 500. I note from what people are posting here in their training threads that data from the edge 500 appears to be provided in miles as opposed to km's when uploaded to the garmin website. Is this because the device is US based or just a case that they haven't converted it from miles to km's.

If you look on the top right of any of those rides, you can select to change it to metric. Once you register your device and an account with Garmin you can set your default to metric or imperial. It just defaults to imperial when a non logged in user clicks on the link.

    on connect.garmin.com:
login -> settings -> display settings -> Measurement Units: Metric

    on the device itself:
menu -> system settings -> system setup or initial setup and follow the onscreen prompts (i.e. pick metric)

Thanks guy's for the clarification. Just didn't see the point forking out the money on something that would only upload into miles on the pc.

Definitely. I had a Garmin Edge 305 but ended up getting rid because it would only measure in furlongs.
