    Hi there,

I am going to Thailand on the way to Aus, for 9 days. I've been before - Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Phi Phi, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Koh Phanyang.. So I'm thinking of seeking somewhere new, does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm thinking of flying down to Koh Samui for a couple of nights and then heading to Koh Tao for about 5 nights. Is it worth going to Koh Tao if I am not planning on doing a full PADI course? (maybe a few 'fun dives')

Also, would it be recommended to go to Pattaya? Hotels look cheap

I'm a 31 year old single male by the way, traveling solo, so looking for decent hotels but also close to backpacking/traveling scene and the odd girly bar!

    Cheers

I only spent a day in Koh Tao but I've give my right arm to go back for at least a week. I'm not big into diving but I just really liked the laid back feel to the place. A few bars etc but v quiet compared to koh samui. You could do the usual carrying on in koh samui and then to Koh Tao to relax. There is great snorkelling just off the beach so theres not a lot of effort required.

Havent been to pattaya so cant comment but tbh it looks pretty tacky to me.

Koh Tao as already mentioned or Koh Lanta on the Andaman coast are both really chilled out places which also have all the necessary amenities. I've never been to Pattaya, but haven't heard good things, if you want to go to somewhere closer to Bangkok, you could try Koh Samet?

Was in Koh Tao last year and didn't dive at all and still loved it - esp Koh Nang Yuan (amazing pics). Stayed in Bans, reasonably priced but still nice and would definitely recommend. It's one of the main dive schools so you'll meet plenty of people round their restaurant even if u stay somewhere else. If you do stay at Bans ask for a room near the beach as some of the rooms are up a giant hill that you don't want to have to climb every day!

Just bare in mind it is more expensive than the other islands, plenty to do if your into watersports and just chilling on koh Tao but I think there are better islands in Thailand.
Watch the over night boat back to mainland a lot of thieving occurs when you leave your luggage downstairs and on the follow on bus up to BK.

If you do go to Koh Tao,the Lomprayah ferry/coach service was excellent when we were there, comfortable and safe way of getting back to Bangkok.
