Future healthcare jobs?

I'm out of work now for 2 years and am at my lowest point in relation to job hunting.
My husband and I are low on money but luckily he is working and we have no children so, we're not on the streets just yet.
I am now faced with the reality that I must retrain, yet again and obviously this would be a huge undertaking financially.
I would like to work in a healthcare related area. As I have specific needs relating to my own health, my future role must allow me the option of being self-employed.

Does anybody have any opinions on which healthcare related jobs may be in demand in the future? I realise nobody has a crystal ball but opinions/ ideas would be welcome?:)

First off what are you "needs relating to your own health" ??? some theraipsts work for them selves but most people have to work as part of a company for insurence and practical reasons, as for retraining you are talking about a min of one school year to retrain as a healthcare assistant which is the bottom of the ladder and the only postion set to grow as alot of the nurces roles are going to be scaled back to allow for cheaper staff to fill the slots, agency work is as flexable as you get but the norm is 1 to 2 years expereince in a nursing home before they will talk to you

Telehealth and home health services are likely to come much more to the fore.

Overcrowded hospitals, expensive visits, better home monitoring tech etc. will drive it.

Maybe one way to go is to look at the option of being trained for simple home-care services. Things like being trained to review people on home dialysis and other home treatments, or health related things to old folks - especially since there'll be many forced to live at home, possibly by themselves, and unable to afford nursing homes.

I'd look into before going that route though - I'm just shooting off the top of my head and have no idea what's involved!

Thanks for your replies. I have a condition which I am managing and am 100% healthy and fit to work but am aware that in later life I may need the option of working short weeks or half days. Flexibility will be necessary.
I am thinking about maybe retraining in the areas of physiotherapy, podiatry or something along those lines....
It's such a big step to do another degree that I'm slightly terrified to spend lots of money and time and still not getting any work!!
