A planning notice has just been erected a short walk's distance from the house. It gives details of five proposed 90 metre high wind turbines with 93 metre diameter blades.

What are the negatives of living close to these monsters? Should I be concerned???

Hi David, I live a mile and a half from six turbines and dont have any issues with them, they are situated to the north west of me and yes sometimes you can hear them (mainly if the wind is directly blowing in the direction through them at me) but nothing to be concerned about.
I really like them and they are a marvelous view out of my bedroom window and you allways know which way the wind is blowing. The only negative i can think of is that the road past my house was destroyed by the huge lorries used to bring them up here, corners had to be widened to accomadate them, part of the road was left as a gravel track for two years after they went up:(

If you have any specific questions ask away:)

If they are in a direct line between you and your local TV transmitter, they would interfere with TV reception, but this would not use a issue with Sat TV reception.

This was on Ear To The Ground I believe? Could be wrong, but I saw this too. Family refused to accept a generous offer from a company who would put a few turbines on their land in exchange for a yearly fee.
All the neighbouring farmers accepted. The farmer and his wife in question began to suffer depression from the incessant drone from the turbines turning.
I have a few friends that live near them in Ireland and have had no problems however. Depends on how close you are.

If the turbines lay between your house and the sun at some point during the day you may be subject to annoying flickering from the turbines shadows, obviously its very dependent on how close they are.

can you give some more details, how far is a 'short walk' (ie from your boundary to to the closest turbine)

if its outside 500m you are far enough away so there woulnt be any major noise from them. There may be some shadow flicker depending on where your house is in relation the turbine. Are you loking for negatives, try looking at the positives instead, in 20 years time they will be all over the place as we will not be able to afford oil or gas!! Learn to love them or you may become depressed!!

I have 6 within walking distance from my house and there's hopefully going to be four more bigger ones nearer soon(ish!!)

Any decent turbine manufacturer will install a sensor that automatically turns off the turbines when the sun is shining through the spinning turbines at local dwellings. They are called shadow flicker sensors.
