If it's not shot in HD - it technically wouldn't be true hi-definition, right?

I have the trilogy here. I love them. :D Really hope the new promised trilogy comes to fruition.

This question comes up a lot. They were shot on film, which (though it's an analog format) has a potentially far higher resolution than HD. In fact, most films shot in HD don't look that great. In terms of picture quality, film is still far superior. How good they look on Blu-ray depends on the transfer.

Jurassic Park 1 solo edition please! Whatever about Lord of the Rings, the problem with something like JP or the Matrix is that a trilogy boxset is inevitably merely one great film beside two divisive ones.

But yeah, while traditionally shot film can and often does look great in HD, the problem is often the 2.35:1 ratio that will give you the closest image to the director's vision but loses considerable portions of your 16:9 television to black space in the process. So while the image certainly looks great, it won't look as instantly 'wow!' as, say, animated films that are tailored for the home market end and hence can impress with full screen goodness.

Jurassic Park isnt in 2.35:1 though its 1.85:1. I have the 720p versions of all three and they're a massive improvement on the dvds, JP1 especially it fixes a lot of the dvd framing issues and generally crappiness of the original dvd transfer.

Yeah wasn't the original JP a very early DVD? Probably could do with this significant updating, as many can.

I got it around 2002? I think? its horrible looking compared to the spruced up versions its like going from vhs to bluray which it pretty much is as its a godawful transfer, the colours on the hd versions are way brighter and it looks great, the fx really hold up as well I was worried they wouldnt when you see them in HD.

As much as I love the movie parts of it bug the crap out of me though :pac: I want strangle Timmy at the end when they're struggling to hold the door closed from the raptor and cant reach the gun and he just jumping up and down with his hands on his head, hand Grant the gun you moron!

Quite pricey for the (admittedly very cool) special edition, play have it listed as €84.49

Think I'll wait for a single release of the first one instead of the trilogy

I'm kinda annoyed they went with the colour scheme of the third movie for the box art, should have been the first one, the logo is yellow not silver dammit!

You could be stung for VAT on that too..

.. Amazon have it for €76 (give or take).

As more of the retailers get it up (The Hut Group etc), prices will come down slowly. And then you'll get discount codes here and there.

Think I'll just pick up the first film on Blu-ray too though.. already have the trilogy on DVD but I'd just double-dip for the first one methinks.

Ah feck it, there's no standalone edition of the first film. I'll wait until there is as well. I'm not paying €40+ for a crappy box set with two films I don't care about.
