Ive been in IT for many years, but recently took a new job. Part of the new job is consultancy. Its an area i dont have any real experience in, but my opinion is that if you dont put yourself into new situations that are currently out of your depth you will never grow in your profession, so here I am!

I will be working on a production system that, although it functions is in a little bit of dissarray.

My main role will be to ensure it does not fall over while i do a little performance tuning. I will be doing this for the next 3 weeks on this client site.

I have never been given access to a production system that process'es this volume of revenue with so little training or handover, on a site where i dont really know anyone, so im quite nervous.

Anyone got any advise to help ensure i dont screw this up?

Maybe they have a test system you could run scripts on first ?

Sounds a little odd to me that you would be expected to performance tune a production system, with what sounds like very little support or lead in time ?

I guess my only advice would be to make sure you have good rollback scripts
and re-check every thing even when your sure your good to go !
