    Hi all,

Just got a letter from the student accommodation complex which I lived in last year. It notified me that the company has gone into liquidation.

I was dues to recive a deposit in the region of 900EU. Have I lost, if not all, most of this deposit? I was thinking of contacting the student union of my former college (just graduated), but I'm not sure if they can do anything or if they would help out since I have finished college. Is there anything I could do.

I'm really gutted over losing this money:(

If a liquidator has been appointed, you need to lodge a claim with him.

You are sill "in college" until you graduate.

Might be no harm to send a letter to the PRTB or Threshold. They may be able to mediate on your behalf seeing as it's a tenant/landlord issue; theoretically your security deposit should be secure, and the liquidator is your new landlord.

Are you still resident in the accommodation ?

No. I was only living there from September last year and moved out at the end of April. This was the time we were back our deposit. There is a meeting of creditors next week so I suppose I'll know a bit more then.

I thought that since the company went into liquidation that any outstanding depts would not be any of the new owners bussiness?

Not really an expert at this kind of stuff. Thanks for all the replies.

If the company has gone into liquidation the likelihood of you getting any of your money back directly is minimal. If you paid by credit card you may manage to get some of the amount back directly from your credit card provider depending on the terms of the card.

The company's assets will be sold off for cash ("liquidated") and the proceeds will be divided among the creditors. Preferred creditors like the Revenue get paid first. You are not a preferred creditor so you'll be lucky to get anything. Sorry.
