I want to buy my boyfriend a pc which he can play minecraft on. The netbook he has doesn't support it however i'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to computers and was wondering what would be the best pc to buy which would make minecraft run smoothly? Also something relatively cheap would be great:)

    All help/links appreciated

I guess anything up to 500 -600 euros. The cheaper the better really but I would be willing to spend 600 on a very good one

600 on parts would easily get you a good mid-high end pc for gaming these days, do you have a monitor lying around or a 19-22 inch tv you dont use alot? i find that the most expensive part these days

you will get better value buying parts seperate and letting your boyfriend build it, or maybe u know someone who would put it together for you. dont forget that if your buying it in parts u need to buy a copy of windows as well, although u may have a friend can help you out with that ;)

If you're willing to build your own, something like this would work for just the tower:

    Total build cost: €433.70 + €30 shipping
Samsung SH-222AB bare schwarz SATA €17.71
Xigmatek Asgard III Midi Tower - black, ohne Netzteil €32.63
    ASRock 880G Pro3, Sockel AM3+, ATX €79.55
    Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB, SATA II (HD502HJ) €33.59
    AMD Athlon II X3 455 "Boxed" 95W, Sockel AM3 €63.73
    Club 3D Radeon 6850 1024MB, AMD Radeon HD 6850, PCI-Express €122.99
    4GB-Kit Corsair DDR3 PC1600 C9 Classic €31.10
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W €52.40

Its not too expensive and leaves plenty of upgrade options. You would still need Windows, a monitor etc. on top of that however.

tbh, I think it best if we just pointed this person at a "buy this" link and didn't cloud the issue with "here's a list of parts you know nothing about, just take our word for it, putting it together's easy" :)

So I'd suggest that the most important question here is do you want it to be portable or not? €600 would get you a laptop that'd be more than capable of running Minecraft.

The most important bits for Minecraft are the RAM and the Graphics Card.

You want to facilitate the minecraft habit of your other half? Really?

I have no problem building one for free if its in the Dublin area. Self built saves a huge amount on crappy prebuild Dells etc.

Yes simple terms help:) I'd prefer maybe a non portable one but if it ran well on a laptop I would most definitely consider buying one. Either or is good he already has a netbook but it fails for minecraft. So either or whochever's cheaper I suppose.

Yes I do. I'm the best girlfriend ever;) Or he's become so obsessed it's all he talks about and i'm about to go insane:)

I could never ask anyone to do anything like that for me. I would be almost afraid to try and build a computer so I'll leave it to the experts. Thank you so much for your kind offer though

Ahh yes, i learnt at a young age to keep such talk to myself, and enquire about shoes and hair and whatnot.

I've already done loads of custom builds for friends, family and another boardsie :) Have a look at us in B&U if you are unsure:
