ferry is not bad, i injoy it, just make the most of it as its part of the hol! onething ill point out is theres 2 restrants on board one is sort of like a canteen layout (ment to be cheeper etc) and other is normal restruant etc.
however sometimes people dont seem to notice that if you going for a full meal etc that the restrant style one actuly can work out the same price as just the what is ment to be the cheaper one and its more comfee, now that was a while ago when i was on it but just keep it in mind when looking at both of them!
re the bulbs, there is some sort of sticker you can get to put over ur lights! not sure what the story is with them tho.

You can buy these stickers on the boat.. The shop sells them... Although I'm sure you can buy them on ebay or in a car shop for cheaper than the ferry price...

I also agree about the restaurants..

When we travelled a couple of weeks ago we found that breakfast was better value in the table service restaurant than the canteen... €14.95 in table service restaurant for cereal tea and coffee breads and juices and a full Irish... I think the canteen was €12.95 for a full Irish alone!

You can buy a roll of tape and do just as good a job as is done with stickers that are often sold at a silly price. All you need to do is have a good look at how they are set up on somebody else's car (it's counter-intuitive until you realise that most of the light from your car's headlights is projected by reflection).

Yep i agree. That is what my Dad does. And in fact we have a german campervan and he just uses black tape to adjust the beams to suit Irish roads

Why do you need to cover up the lights with tape and which lights are ye referring to?
    Thanks

Headlights on righthand drive cars here and in the UK are aimed slightly left of centre to light up the nearside edge of the road. Driving on the right in mainland Europe, that beam will go straight into the eyes of oncoming motorists so part of it needs to be shielded. On some car models there is an adjuster switch on each headlight to change the orientation to the continental mode. If you don't have that facility then you have to go with the low-tech solution discussed above.

Its not a rough crossing but some tips:

If you get a cabin make sure its above deck 5. Bloody BMW car alarms get set off by the slightest rock and can be heard on Deck 5.

Take your own food - especially on the way back as its all yummy. We took a cooler on board with us and piged out in the cabin. Saved us quite a few bob.

    Bulbs - need replacements
Breathalyser - Needed after July 1st - can be bought for about a fiver in Dublin
You need a triangle and Hi-ves jacket

French Drivers are generally very patient but tail gate like anything. They don't mean anything (other than get moving) by it but just be aware.

Just back from France, you need the replacement bulbs / triangle and yellow hi vis vest (keep in in the car not in the boot), but don't worry if you don't have a breathalyser, the cops won't fine you over the summer, but after september they will.
Got this from the horses mouth when I got pulled by the motor cycle cops, nice lads, take no sh1te. I was driving a spanish reg car and once they saw the Irish licence thay let me off with a warning :D
