iPhone Service Repair Questions

It seems my iPhones home button has stopped working so I sent a request to Apple for it to be shipped for repair/replacement. Is it true that because of the positioning of the home button, Apple will most likely replace the phone?

Also of concern is how long it will take before I get my phone back? I'm quite dependent on it :P

Lastly, because of the fact that the iPhone 4 uses microsims, where would I be able to buy a Micro-sim adapter in-store in Ireland? There would be no point in purchasing it online, as by the time I have it in my hands, I will probably have my iPhone returned

    Cheers

Don't know about needing to replace the whole phone but from experience in sending an iPod classic back for repair it was collected on the Monday and a new one was delivered on the Wednesday. Probably better if they replace. Why don't you put all your contacts into google contacts and set up your email via exchange, it wil auto synch to your phone.

It will all be backup on iTunes anyway, so I'm not concerned about that. 2 day turn around doesn't sound too bad :P

I got mine fixed for the same issue 2 weeks ago.
It takes a full week between dropping your phone into ups in the box that apple sends you to when the phone is back in your hands.
They replaced my phone straight away for me. And I've a very sneaky suspicion that the phone apple sent me back is unlocked.

Did you have to pay a €35 charge I've been hearing for a courier or something? Would it be less hassle to return to the store it was purchased, would people reckon?

No I didnt. Free delivery both ways.. you wont get it fixed any faster, and if you go to o2 and the like, chances are, they'll direct you to Apple anyway

I had my phone replaced a couple of weeks under warranty for the same issue. I paid extra to get new phone shipped out before sending mine bike. This cost €29 plus a hold on my CC until they received my old phone back. Only took a day after phoning them for the replacement to arrive.

Very impressed with the service from apple.

the 30e charge is for an express replacement where Apple send you a new iPhone straight away and you use that while sending your broken iphone to them.

but they keep your old phone and you keep the new one they send you, they also put a charge on your card to make sure you actually send them an iphone too.

Do you mind me ask who you phoned/emailed and what you did (drop it off somewhere etc).

Basically my Iphone works fine but for the middle button. Is this the norm for Apple to simply replace them otherwise why would people need phone insurance?

Phone apple directly. As long as its still under warranty they will fix it for you.
You can send phone off to be repaired by completing a form online:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
If you want a new phone sent out in advance, then you have to phone them. http://www.apple.com/ie/support/iphone/contact/
If you phone them, they will check youre on the lastest ios version, and have tried a full restore. Even though the home button is a known issue, they will still insist on this. So pre-empt the request to say you tried this already.

Phone insurance will (in theory) cover you for accidental damage, loss, theft and airtime abuse. Apple is only covering hardware defects that occur within warranty.

i assumed it would be yes, BUT its tied to your old serial number on their side and as soon as you sync it with your itunes your locked carrier file is put on the new one... correct?

i thought thats why the unlock came through itunes???

it took my 3gs 4 days turn around from handing the phone to the courier to having the replacement in my hand, but that was delayed a day by the courier coming 3 hours before he was agreed to come and refusing to come back at the agreed time, (the 'office' forgot to call me) so i had to wait 24 hours.

ps: send it on the monday morning and you should have it by thurs/friday!

Home button acting up on mine too.
Rang Apple Care, only 5 days left on warranty.

Received the pre paid UPS bag on Thursday and sent it via the local UPS depot at 7pm Thursday evening, and got it back today, the following Wednesday.

    4 workings days in total.
