    Hi all,

I am currently running in wicklow and a young lad moved into the area from Hungary. He left the sport at 16 with PB's of under 4 in the 1500 and 15 flat 5km..so pretty solid for a lad that young.

He wants to get back into the sport in a serious way and I know for a fact I am in no way qualified to coach him as he is clearly full of potential having ran so young at just 16. He showed me his old training logs and hes never been over about 35 miles a week.

I am looking for recommendations on the top (preferably level 3 qualified) coaches currently active in ireland. I told him that I would assist him finding a top coach. I am quite out of the loop being a marathon "runner"

    Thanks for any input!

Given from what you told me certainly seems to be very talented. Robert Denmead is would be a name that comes to mind as being one of the top on the list. Has had great success with many young 1500m runners over the past few years.

Among the athletes he has coached recently that come to mind

Colin Costello (European Junior 1500m champion and former Irish Junior Mile record holder)
Paul Robinson (current Junior Irish Mile record holder 4min flat)
Noel Collins (ran 3.46 last year in the 1500m)

Coaches in Tullamore but the three lads I have mentioned are from all over the country. Would be worth a shot contacting him

Is he a member of a club? I doubt if any athletics coach would take him on unless he were registered with AAI, for insurance purposes if no other.

I'm sure there are a few appropriately qualified coaches in the Wicklow region that he could link up with through the club structure.

    Hi there,

Get in touch with John Downes at Donore Harriers. He has some good lads under him at the moment. John Travers for example 3.42 for 1500.

Worth contacting info@donoreharriers.com for more details.

If you are on the east coast of Wicklow try Noreen O'Reilly in Wicklow town (Inbhear Dee) she has had a number of good athletes down the years Stephanie O'Reilly (her daughter), Roisin McGettigan, Tara Jameson and currently Cathal Daly. If you are in the west of the county you will have to head into Dublin.

I think you should contact Sli Cualann AC. Sli Cualann is the umbrella club for most clubs in Wicklow. There would be a good network of coaches and training groups involved.
