Selling the banger...

I'm going back to getting the bus for a few months as the NCT is up in mid July and the heap isn't going to pass. It runs fine but gets crap mileage and frankly I hate the car so much now I'd prefer to be without and save for a decent car.

    So, specs:

    1999 Corsa 1l 12V
    5 doors
    Crayola blue/purple colour
    Standard CD player
    Central locking
    Taxed until August
    NCT 07/11

    Good points:

    Alloys (kerbed).
    Gearbox is fine.
    Engine pulls fine.
No warning lights and everything lights up when it should.
    New rad.
    New coolant temp sensor.
    Oil's fine.
    New air filter.
    New plugs.
    New front wipers.
    Good tyres.
    Brakes are fine.
    Exhaust system is fine.
    Lights are fine.
    No suspension clonks.
    No dents (surprisingly).

    Bad points:

    Rusty and split front ARB.
Water stains on the front seats.
23-27 mpg and no idea why it's doing it.
    Two very slow oil leaks.
    Rad bracket gone.
Driver door slightly bent when someone broke in, closes fine.
One or two small rust patches on bodywork.
    Rear axle is very rusty.

Any ideas on a guideline price?

Not a hope, I bought a 98 Fiesta for €100 with the clutch gone, done and sorted on the road for €300 with NO rust.

Understandable, but still with a bit of T&T it will do someone for a banger run around so about €350 depending on who you meet to buy it.

NCT up in a fortnight, few small things wrong with it. Only someone who reckons it's sellonable with a new test will take a punt on it in my view. I sold the Rover Coupe with the gearbox done in for €250, admittedy that had nearly 3 months tax. A running Corsa has to be worth €300+ though. You should see that at least for it.

With a new ARB, small tidy of the rear axle (if needed) and the rad secured would it pass the test? Worth putting through me thinks if you have time on your hands.

I have a 00 5 door corsa that is running fine, NCTd till 04/12, no rust and Im not banking on getting any more than €800 when I sell, so i think youd be doing unbelievably well to get €600 for it tbh

Can't be arsed, don't have the money and I'm selling it for my brother in any case. I really only rented it off him, although I'm the legal owner. They don't care as long as they get something for it as I paid them €300 already.

    booooooooooooooooo :P

Just give it back to him as is, €300 sounds like more than enough for what you got out of it.

They don't want or need it. Think I'll stick it up on Adverts for €300 and see how it goes.

Out of curiousity, roughly what would you get in a scrap yard / breakers for it does anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

I recently got one of these handed to me. Couldnt pass the nct and no one wanted it. Was a 98 1.2 mind you...

Because its a 1l it might generate some interest to younger people. Id say €300 is a nice fair price :)

Youd be lucky to get £170 for it, sending the car first then the cat, COD included...

Worth more than that for the scrap metal value i would have thought, in my area old cars are being collected for crushing and the collectors are paying upwards of 250 Euro before they even load the car.
