beta carotene tanning tablets

    Hi,

    I'm completely new to this.

I'm going on holiday in 2 months and I'm extremely fair skinned.

I never sun bathe and wear factor 50 at all times.

I'd really like to have a tan while i'm away and to be honest I'm starting to get fed up of spray tans that only look good for a few days.

I've looked into beta carotene tanning tablets and was wondering if anyone has taken them and know's the safe amount to take daily whilst still achieving a nice glow.

I'm not bothered about being really brown as I have very blonde hair but would be happy with just taking the edge of my bright white bod.

    Any advice?

Be very careful when taking tanning tablets as you can go Orange which is not a very good look.

Getting a spray tan would be a better idea. depending how long you're away for. If you moisterize alot your tan should last a week.

if you have very fair skin, tan Organics or Vita Lliberata would be best. :)

I know a girl who went orange from those tablets. Not a good look.
They sell something similar in holland and barrett. I asked the girl about them, and she said you have to go out in the sun while taking them to make them work. Sure that is just getting a natural tan!

If your extemly fair skinned as you said then taking the tablets wont make you tan. Yes they might dye your skin but I wouldnt trust something that does this from the inside out tbh, why not just have a spray done before you go?

aside the orange tone that might result, i would seriously question the side affects health wise:eek: it could be anything in those

I would agree, these types of products just make me nervous, there not around long enough for side effects to be to be explored fully

Ok my comment could have been better placed in a health forum but really. It amazes me what risks women in particular are prepared to take to look beautiful. To take on a substance like carotene (from god knows what source) so that they can look a little browner or orangier in the case of carotene solely on the basis of appearances?? Really some people need their head examined.

Laurnia I've been using a Lancaster cream called Sunslim which is meant to help with cellulite and boost your skins melanin before you go away on holidays. I picked it up in the Debenhams sale reduced from €40 - €12. I'm doubtful that it will work tbh but for €12 I said Id take a chance. I use it instead of body moisturiser in the morning but the only thing is later on in the day if I rub my leg the moisturiser seems to "ball" off if you know what I mean.

Piz Buin also do a Tan Enhancer sun protectant spray which boosts melanin also - Ill be using this when Im in the sun. I picked mine up in Boots where there was 2 for 1.

    Might be worth a shot.

I have seen beta-carotene tablets recommended for people whose skin reacts badly to sun..not sunburn or heatrash, but an irritable itchy rash that gradually fades. It can be quite sore and looks rotten, and I will be trying beta-carotene next time I'm somewhere hot to try to counteract this, not for reasons of trying to get a tan- I don't much care about that.

Carotene tablets for fair skin? That sounds like a disaster.
Stick to spray as you can get one that suits your complexion and also any any fashion disasters will be temporary. The last thing you need is to look like a carrot with limbs and a head.
