Very astute in most ways, but noticed they occasionaly forget the odd elementary fact. Is this something to worry about it or a natural part of ageing that happens to most people?, without it necessarily leading to alzheimers?.

I'm not sure what you mean by elementary fact?

A close relative had altzheimers and the first thing we noticed was things being done out of character- eg, the person normally being very careful with money, began to spend impulsively. Not being able to know the names of an everyday item, and having great recall of the past, yet forgot what they did the day before.

In the beginning it was like forgetfulness, leaving doors unlocked, or cupboards/drawers open, or the cooker on. As it went on, that extended to forgetting family members, or thinking that grown up children were back in school.

Op you really need to get your parent to see their doctor for a refferal to be propperly assesed catching any form of demntica early is important, it can make a great diference to how quickly it progresses (ps sorry about the spelling)

I think you should quantify elementary fact. If it's forgetting where they left their keys or did they leave the emersion on, we're all prone to that at any age.

A good idea would be to consult someone else who knows your parent well and has had regular interaction with them recently and ask if they have noticed any of the issues you have picked up on. Also, do some research on Alzheimers to see if the traits highlighted seem to match what you are observing. Check out alzheimers.ie as it will give you a wealth of information.
