I bought a Ford Escort 1.6i Cab which I had 12 years ago.. when I was in my early 20's. its the exact car so has great sentimental value.

Exact same model and looks in link picture below.

My dad is looking after it for me and the car is in good order. Insured, taxed and Mot in UK perfect runner.

Its not worth of great value.. few hundred Quid.. But its more sentimental to me than to get rid of it. When I visit my dad its get to drive it for the weekend which is always nice.

My dad however is now falling ill and unable to carry out maintenance on it, and to save it from standing for years im looking at importing it.

IM trying to find the exact price of importing it into Ireland..

The VRT website is quoting 600-700 Euros..
    But is it correct?

This will make it a very Expensive car.. and im trying to balance the sentimental aspect.

Is the VRT reasonable price for such an old car..

As above, it will fall into the minimum bracket for its emissions which will make it a very expensive import. You could always leave it for another 6 years and it would be classed as a classic which are VRT exempt.

classicVRT €200 (or a service charge if you want to argue it, but still €200)

was it ever an irish car in the past ? or did it start life in the uk ?

buy it , bring it over and take the plates off it , keep it in your garden or garage for a while, look after it and then if you come into money or can wait 6 years then registration wont be an issue

Ah, the old 'vrt exempt but you have to pay a 'service charge' scam'. Pesky revenue!

Im planning on keeping this car.. for the rest of my life... would love to be 60+ still driving it.

The car is a fully UK...

I Bought the car in 2000 and had if for 6 years....Went though a few life changes while in ownership of it, which built many fond memories of it..
After a 2 month stint travelling around europe in it in mid 2006, I returned and without much thought decided to get rid of it.. Banged it outside my mums house with a 1000 quid sign.. and it was gone within 2 hours...

Receiving the call off my mum I realised what a Hugh mistake I made...

I spent YEARS... looking up ebay/autotrader/pistonheads/ford car meets to find it..teached all my friend and family members the REG so the could keep an eye out for it. Even spoke to police in trying to get address owners... as I knew the REG off by heart, but the said they couldn't disclose that information.

Anyway... one normal day out in manchester with a friend I saw it driving down the duel-carriageway and with-out thinking... I ran straight for it, lucky there were lights on this carriageway which turned to red which stopped the car. I made 100m in around 10-15 seconds and jumped in though the Drivers Window without thinking about the shock I was giving the poor driver.

I don't remember much, but he was beating me in the head, and i was trying to tell him i wanted to buy the car back..4 years looking for it, I wasn't letting it go out of my sight.

(the Driver was not the person who bought the car, but a new owner).

Anyways, he started to drive off with me half sticking out, so I went into my pocket, and managed to flick my buisness card into the car with the last words.. Call ME.

I got a call the following day from the wife of the husband who was driving it. they sold me the car, at twice the price it was worth. (didn't matter to me though).

Have to say the car was in very poor shape. The husband told me he was driving it into the ground and will Scrap it as soon as its blows the engine.

lucky I found it that day. I travelled 11 miles towards home and the engine died.

(Some part of me feels the car was staying alive just so I could find it).

Thats the History of my car.

Anyways living in Ireland now.. I would love to bring her over...I will do... but trying to find how much its going to cost..Im sure I can live of bread and water for a few weeks.
