Windows 7 performance issues

    Hi All

Sometimes in my work I get a chance for a few nixers, I used some of my hard earned cash last year to buy a laptop for working at home as our desktop is fairly poor. I got an Acer 5542 with windows 7 64 bit installed and a copy of microsoft office.

I loved this computer and everything was going tickety boo up to christmas. Around this time, the nixers had dried up a bit so cash was becoming a bit more scarce. The computer was being used as a dukebox on new years night and someone thought it did such a good job, it gave it a drink!!

About a day or so later, it started... The keyboard failed, then the OS became unstable. brought it to shop and computer not covered for becoming fond of the vino. I asked a techie friend who gave me a copy of unbuntu and a usb keyboard. This was grand for email and net and libreoffice is better than office in many ways, still for ease of use I wanted to go back to windows 7.

To make a long story short, I parted with €150 for a disc copy of the OS this weekend and preceeded to load up, wiping my unbuntu and giving over the whole drive to windows. Got it installed but it is desperate, cannot download adobe, cannot install office, its super slow.

Anyone know how I can resolve the performance issues. cash is an issue so if there's a website or a magic cure, I'd be grateful if you could advise me. I'm getting something thats affectionately known as the Blue Screen of Death. Woooo!!:(

    Any help appreiciated

ok, since liquid spilled into the laptop, its most likely something has gone tits up.

first off, why did you pay €150 for windows disc when you already have a licence sticker on the laptop?!

my advice, get a refund on that and borrow someone's cd.

get a small screw driver, remove the covers on the back of the laptop, and remove the ram and harddrive.
you can easily find a guide on how to remove the laptop covers online, and get the keyboard out. it probably needs a good clean. use a cotton bud and a dry cloth (something that wont leave threads) and give it a clean.

then replace 1 stick of ram, and the harddrive and try install again, see if it makes a difference.
