Charging for a fitting with the Taylormade Tour Truck?

I just phoned McGuirks to try to book in for a fitting this week when the TaylorMade Tour van is in town. They told me that there is a €30 charge for the fitting, but this is refundable if you buy the clubs.

Is this standard? When I was living in the UK a couple of years ago I got fit by the TaylorMade Tour Van and this was a free service, regardless of whether you purchased the clubs or not. They appeared to work on the principle that they were selling to you and if they did a good enough job they would make the sale. Incidentally I did purchase a set of irons from them that day.

If the new irons are better than my current irons I am going to purchase a new set of irons, but I disagree on principal with a conditional paying for the fitting with the tour van people, when this service is given free of charge in the UK.

It's standard practice, filters out the time wasters.

Had a set of irons fitted by the Taylormade guys last year, thoroughly professional and money well spent.

    It makes perfect sense really.
TM don't want to waste their time and punters who want to get fitted and buy something don't have to wait for the tyre-kickers to mess around.

if you have existing TM clubs and want to get them custom fit, does this mean they will this for you, for a fee of €30?

I understand the rational, but don't necessarily agree with it.

Just for the record, Taylormade don't charge this fee, McGuirks do. In the UK the store or range running the fitting day don't charge a fee.

The host (McGuirks) charge the redeemable EUR 30 to get rid of tyre kickers.

That's strange - I had a mate go out to the Callaway fitting in McGuirks Kinsealy and there was no obligation or charge for the club demo / fitting he got done.

The difference is the fittings and clubs are assembled on-site on the Taylormade tour truck that day so timewasters are a bigtime liability when time is at a premium.

Incidentally McGuirks are one of the biggest Callaway retailers in Europe no waiving fees like that wouldn't be an issue.

FYI - no charge for Ping fitting with McGuirks either. I'm heading to the Ping fitting in Stepaside this week and you get 30 min fitting for free without obligation.

The guys confirmed that Taylor Made were the only ones who charge, as you get the Tour Truck gig.

Not quite to do with the thread but the TM Tour Experience truck is at Greystones Driving Range today.... Just saw it heading there about an hour ago!! Don't know any arrangements re times, costs (if any?) etc but I'm sure if you give them a call you will find out!:D
