Error 797 - Modem Problem - Wireless Connection

I have just moved into a new place, where there is wireless broadband. I am using a desktop computer, and previously I have been connecting to the internet via a usb connection (o2 mobile broadband). Now when I am trying to connect via the wireless network, it's telling me the following

    "Opening port...

Error 797: The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed. Please make sure that the modem or other connecting device is installed"

Does this mean I don't actually have a modem installed on my computer, and I'll need to purchase one? My computer is recognising the network, and telling me that there is an excellent signal, but the error message above is displayed when I attempt to connect.

In the event that I do need to buy a modem, I'm guessing it would be best to purchase an external modem. Could anybody offer any advice on this please and thanks?

It is probably trying to connect using the O2 connection, make sure you are not defaulting to the O2 connection.

Maybe delete or disable the O2 one.

View the available wireless connections and choose the one for your apartment. You should then be prompted for the password which you should have been given.

Hi FSL, appreciate the advice, but in this case it appears more complicated than that.

It is not trying to connect to the o2 network. The network I want to connect to is displayed in the list, but when I double click on it to connect, instead of getting the expected prompt for the password, I get the modem error!
