Generic catalytic convertors - worth it ?

    Hi folks

Are these aftermarket catalytic convertors okay or not ? Feedback on Ebay is useless here as most relates to delivery and initial fitting & running

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/130353306501

One of the cats on my car is rattling, so I guess there's something loose inside - I'll have to change it before it breaks up and clogs the exhaust. Someone recommended getting a second-hand OEM cat instead of the aftermarket jobbie.

    Cheers
    Frank

One of your cats?? All cars only have 1 cat in the middle between the manifold and the silencers.

You can ask in an exhaust shop first. It'll probably be cheaper buying from ebay (it was for me) but then you need to get someone to fit it for you.

Cheers - second hand cat (of unknown history) is working out at the same price as one of these new Ebay items.

Still, two year warranty on the Ebay cats...

Got a cat for her MX5 on this crowd:
    http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/
Cost under £80, had to remove exhaust system, cut out old cat, weld new one in, job done.
That was a good few years ago, the cat just passed it's second NCT.
I shudder to think how much money it would have cost me to drive up to garage and say "can you fix the cat?"
My guess is in the region of E700.
Yes. It is SO totally worth it. And I can recommend that crowd.

    Thanks Doctor !

Not a bad website. £280 for a pair of cats for my car, and it looks like they are fully formed, no welding. Looks alright !

    Hopefully so!
Mine came as only the cat and some cutting welding was needed, better make sure anyway.
