Laptop €900 (advice)

I am trying to replace my old tired laptop with a good value high performance laptop with a budget of up to €900 (£800).

From my research, I am very tempted by Acer Aspire 5950G (Core i7, 8gb RAM, 750GB HD, 2gb dedicated memory card):

Review of lower spec. version of this laptop (version Core i7, 4gb RAM, 640GB HD, 1gb memory card):

Can anyone advise if my €900 would be better spent elsewhere?

    Thanks in advance.

You should get a decent laptop with a budget like that.

DON'T be tempted by a €500-600 Dell. Complete waste of money. It will fall apart after about a year.

OK, that's more reassurance than advice that you're on the right lines. :)

That 5950G looks good alright. One thing that's potentially missing is a blu-ray player. And it seems like it just has "standard" integrated speakers. Also the network card is only 100mbps.

If these things aren't an issue for you, go for it :)
